But it does honestly puzzle me that God would have to use a Flood to wipe the Earth clean of the bad humans. He could just zap them or something. Flood imagery suggests a cleansing. Sometimes we don't have the answer, maybe never, but there are clues. Flood, baptism, cleansing .. there seems to be a common theme there.
