Response to Why do so many Fundies love War? |
| I've been pondering that quite a bit.
Is it the religion that CAUSES them to think hostile -ly ... or does religion simply ease their conscience about feeling hostile?
Using simple common sense should tell anyone very quickly, that if a group of people are severely in the minority, they haven't a CHANCE of conquering anyone unless they're exceptionally brilliant. A group of madmen might wreak havoc but ONLY on a very small, limited scale ... which can easily be contained with superior knowledge and weapons.
What have Iranians got? A population of 74 million, as compared to the U.S.'s 300 million? That's enough, granted --IF-- they were really advanced technologically and brain- ally. But just how advanced are they? Heck, they STILL have to import all of their gasoline and fuels from outside country refineries! How the heck are they going to wage any war when they can't even produce their own fuels?
What have they got for manufacturing sophisticated weapons? Pretty well nothing. They have to buy all their weapons from other countries.
A rule of conquest is that a country HAS to be able to produce its OWN weaponry and provide its own fuel to run its own machinery. These are two areas that Germany and Japan focused on very heavily before becoming aggressive enough to wage war.
So then there's this "magic bullet" though .... a nuclear weapon . What could they do if they were to succeed in developing a nuclear bomb?
Well, only as much as Korea has been able to achieve ... or China ... or Russia .... all of whom have been cold enemies at one time or another. Pakistan presently, is probably the biggest looming threat because it has all of the ingredients that Iran is being singled out for: mad Muslims, hostile attitude, a nuclear bomb ....
And yet the U.S. is casually sending drone strikes INTO Pakistan at will, to bomb its citizens. If ANYONE were to be a real threat today -in terms of how Iran is explained by the U.S.- it would be Pakistan. The same "crazy" people, willing to stop at nothing and ... mad as hell at the U.S.
So why isn't PAKISTAN using its nuclear capability against the U.S.? Because it doesn't DARE.
Having a nuclear bomb and being able to use it somehow are two vastly different things. You need sophisticated delivery. That requires space technology. It also requires mass production.
Yes, but .... the argument is made .... they could simply SHIP such bombs in crates, over to the U.S. on cargo container ships.
Well, shit ... if they could do THAT, anyone could do that. Just go to Russia and BUY such specially crafted "suitcase" bombs and send them to the U.S. to blow up in their harbors. Why hasn't this already been done? Probably because the concept of suitcase nuclear bombs is mostly a fabrication of overactive imagination.
Let Iran develop whatever the heck they want. They'll NEVER be any more of a threat than Pakistan, India, China or Korea. They haven't SHOWN themselves to be aggressive or overtly hostile. They mind their own business. Are they crazy and evil? Maybe/maybe not ... but that factor is irrelevant. It's their determination to attack America ... and their ability to accomplish anything that should be the primary concern.
They can't DO anything. Well ... at least they can't do anything unless the U.S. virtually opens doors and invites them to come and strike.
That's what homeland security is SUPPOSED to be guarding ... the homeland. If they do their job, no other country is going to be able to do anything significant. The only reason anything ever happened in the first place is because homeland security was AWOL.
But try to tell that to some rabid fundamentalist Christian. Oh no ... GOD sanctions war and aggression. It just FEELS so good to be right with might.
