...the prophecy of Armageddon is simply a logical extrapolation from the story that a war was necessary for the children of Israel to take the land of Canaan in the first place. The retaking of that land, by the body assembled to follow the Christ(to resurrect the Davidic kingdom), will also require a great battle.
The depth of the blood shed in the battle of Armageddon, is prophesied to come up to the horse's bridles, and I suspect that this is where the idea comes from, that the salvation of the Jew(fallen Israel's resurrection to repentance) will be paid for by the blood of the body of Christ.
