Response to Question is ...
You were so devout, how much time did you spend on your knee's at church? In all them devout years you're goiing to tell me you never once felt the Spirit of God? If you never felt the SPirit of God on your life, and you claim you were a "devout" christian, there's something wrong with you expirience. Its jsut that simple. Louis
It's all so "simple".
You: The New Testament itself lays out no clear or consistent rules on what to do to become a "TRUE" Christian. According to Paul, you just join in and start to grow in the faith.
|Me: Mar 11:30 The baptism of John, was [it] from heaven, or of men? answer me.
Jhn 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
You: Many of them were baptized so baptism became a "rule" with the Catholic church. But not ALL converts were baptized either, before being accepted. So ... some Christians argue that baptism isn't necessarily an "essential."
Me:k 7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
You: It's absolutely vital to believe in the Trinity ... unless one is a Louian.
Me: It is absolutely necessary to believe in one God
You: Belief in Jesus is ABSOLUTELY necessary .... except for .... John 14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works sake.
Me: Jhn 10:30 I and [my] Father are one. Jhn 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Jhn 14:11 Believe me that I [am] in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. The trinitarian mistake.
You: The works are MOST important then, except for ... Eph. 2:8 ...by grace are ye saved through faith; not of works, lest any man should boast.
Me: Jam 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Jam 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. You were just dead and didn't know it.
You: All have sinned and come short ; there is none righteous, no not one ..... except for ...
Mark 2:17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Me: Good answer!!!
Me: You, Louis, stress the MANIFESTATION and POWER of the "SPIRIT" and yet Jesus said ...
John 4:48 Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
Matthew 16:4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
Mark 8:12 verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
Me: Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; They are following believers,Vince. Were not looking for a sign to prove Christ existance.
and then ....
You: Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Me: 2Pe 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall. No worries, Vince.
You: Yet we also read, Acts 14:3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
Me: Good answer!
You: It seems to me then that the most powerful witness of a devout faith is NOT the amount of talking one does about it but by how well it's demonstrated to others so that THEY can bear witness to it by describing it themselves. In other words, I don't have to TELL you what I am; you should be able to draw your own conclusions from watching me.
Me: Mat 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
And indeed you don't have to tell me what you are, Vince. The things you say, and say you believe broadcast to the world what you are. Louis
