BTW, Mondo ...... I think I've determined that you and I were spawned from the same church movement -the Church of God, Indiana. My parents attended tent meetings conducted by that church back in 1949 or so. My dad and brother were baptized by them.
I remember the lively music they had and the song books they sold, (from which us kids used to sing, using the old pump organ). In later years, I was dismayed that these songs weren't sung in mainline churches and no one seemed to know them. They were harmonious and lively.
When I was doing my Gaither exploration here a few weeks ago, I was surprised to see THEM singing those songs! Turns out that most of the Gaither group were Indiana Church of God folks too! Boy, I was supprised!
So like ...... "OUR church" was actually responsible for launching Rock 'n Roll music ... the "tool of the devil". I wonder if you knew that?
