I visited to a local Quaker House for a few months. The communal silence is a joy and when there was an outbreak of voice, it made wonderful sense.
I concur with their belief that anyone of us can have direct experience of God, and that The Christ can directly teach people.

The Amish are like the Quakers, pacifists. And I believe they refuse refused military service.
One of my fave people (I have LOADS
) is the British Astronomer / physicist, Arthur Eddington. I found his bio a very neat read indeed. His father was a Quaker and so was Arthur and despite being quite a genious, he was often attacked for his pacifism
