Response to Willpower
Observations point to it is that simple. Thousands of veterans that had been addicted and using regularly came home and JUST QUIT. The FACT is that people who do quit permanently do so of their own choice. Blameing addiction on genetics is a ruse. My wife is alergic to peanut butter so is she diseased? The genetic argument is totally bogus and moot in that whether you have a predisposition to one thing or another doesn't matter when a person actually wants to achieve.
As for treatment programs they generally don't work. It's solely up to the individual: Placebos have proven to be just as effective as so-called treatments.
The vast majority of the treatment hype has been created by AA/NA. The twelve step concept has crept into all kinds of issues such as sex addiction, gambling, smoking, overeating and on and on. So I guess all these people have a genetic predisposition to be socially warped? NO!!! They do it because they want to and enjoy it.
Breaking bad habits takes commitment, not bullshit.
