Response to and yet you do it
for those who get their thrills vicariously ... who strumpet the efforts of others and claim "success" by association but ...
It doesn't really turn the crank of those who like to think for themselves and do their own researching, contemplating and construction.
I've never been a sports enthusiast. For years, I thought I was strange and somehow not quite "right" because of that. Today I know that there's nothing strange about having little interest in sports and athletics -there are lots of people who don't- because ... it's all about one-upmanship ... pitting people against people ... instead of going after other endeavors that are far more productive.
Competition should be about proving competence. If something worthwhile is being done ... maybe someone else will come along who can prove to do it better. In that sense, competition is a good thing.
Competition in the broad sense today though, means ... ELIMINATING the other "side". It's all about destroying the efforts of others and hogging all the available space and ... encouraging that kind of behavior. In this sense, competition is purely a destructive tool.
