... was an ANTICIPATED person. He was to be "revealed" and was to "appear" and ... when he didn't, the believers became antsy and started to leave their faith. This shows through in 2nd Peter 3 and also in the little Johns (where it became mandatory to BELIEVE that he had come in the flesh). If he HAD actually shown up (as the gospels declare) ... there would have been no need for the admonishments to BELIEVE that he did.
