In the Old Testament, Eve, a symbol for the negative (receptive, that is) feminine aspect of instinct was symbolically impregnated by mind, the serpent symbol.
Instinct, which had been dominant in animal man for eons, became the mother of what will gestate into human mind.
Instinct had finally evolved to become mind. This event is symbolically depicted in the Bible by Eve's taking the apple from the serpent. In Trans-Himalayan teaching this point at which mind flashed forth is called Individualisation.
Over the centuries, original meanings are lost, and so it is with the Holy Spirit. Orthodox Christianity begins in the middle of the process with the birth.
Esoteric Christianity, however, bebins at the beginning with the impregnation of mother-matter by what is called in Oriental phulosophy a "ray of Active Intelligence."
Over time, this has become to orthodox Christianity the Holy Spirit. Active Intelligence, fertilizes the egg of matter and embryonic mind, the human soul, the Christ in you the hope of blory, is conceived. Genesis 3:22 beginns (in the Bible) the eons log period of this embroynic germ of mind evolving in quality until it reaches what Phil. 2:5-6 calls Christ mind.
All the Goddesses of antiquity are symbols for Eve, who is, let's not forget, a symbol for the receptive pole of instinct. Adam is a symbol for the positive pole. The positive "Father' aspect that provides life energy for rhe whole. These Goddesses are seen as very powerful because they depict instinct which for eons of time is dominant over the gestating mind. Later, the lower, threefold human nature, physical, emotional anf mental (the three magi) will, at the birth, up to the Transfiguration, are Kings, dominant over Christ mind in its infancy.
So the Adam-Eve-Serpent thing is symbolism for matter being "fecundated" to use an ancient Oriental word, by Active Intelligence (the Holy Spirit) resulting in rudimentary, illusory, mind; that embryonic germ of mind which will gestate into human mind. Adam-Eve-Serpent, over enons of time, evolve into Joseph, Mary-infant Jesus.
'Galilee' means (originally) "the turning of the wheel, the wheel of life and death which turns continuously, carrying us all with it and keeping us on the "wheel of existence." as the Buddhista call it, and we have learned life's lessons and have beome "a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the Master's use. Adam-Eve-serpent (mind) have evoled into Joseph and Mary pregnant with Jesus. The long eons, from the response caused by the interaction of Spirit-matter to the birth lie behind Christ mind. So Joseph-Mary-Jesus come down from Galilee, the whell of existence, to be symbolically born in Bethlehem.
There are two Jesus births in the N.T. One is the birth of the flesh and blood, human Jesus of Nazareth, whos's mama became preganant via sexual intercourse with Joe.
The other Jesus is the eternal symbol for mind leaving behind its trial and error existence and beginning its consciousness stage. Theis is depicted by the birth of the Jesus of Bethlehem. This Jesus of Bethlehem is the Jesus of the N.T. This is the subjective Jesus, the Jesus Christianity has mingled, merged (quite unintentionally) with the Jesus of Nazareth. |
