In England, 10-08-2012 would be considered August 10th, 2012. In America, it's October 8th, 2012.
We Americans see it as being as if it was being spoken (Month-Day-Year). The English see it more chronological (Day/Month/Year).
Either way works for me, so long as we all agree to a standard.
