I don't think the whole Bible is current, the reality of women in society today don't have much to do with the old school thoughts of the Bible.
Concerning a wife;
Ephesians5:28
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
Concerning women and men, Jesus said;
John 13:34
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
