Response to V'GER 20060313

You can call V'GER via a BAT file:
@QBasic /run game
@type HiScores.txt

So when you are finished, you see all your high scores.

V'GER already displayed the highest score of all time. But suppose that was 33 and you've worked hard and gotten to 24, on the way, you hope, of beating the all-time high. But then you goof and the score goes back to zero.

Bummer! Previously, you lost all credit for the 24.

Now, at least, you have a record that you reached that score.

This version also put in an error check. If you hit the "Boss" key, the game is saved in DEFAULT.HST. When you start V'GER again, that file is used to continue the game. But if you manually delete DEFAULT.HST, V'GER would abort with an error and never run again. Now it simply converts your missing game into an immediate loss (score to zero) and recovers nicely.
