This is it! The Opus 5! Again another world’s firsts for Harry Winston Rare Timepieces. This year Max Busser has co-operated with Felix Baumgartner of Urwerk, a name that is not unknown to you all. With the combined imagination from the two, Opus 5 is born. It has a totally different concept in time telling with its ‘satellite hour’ display where the hour consists of three blocks with numbers on each side. The hour hands rotates while each blocks rotates and as it reaches the minute indicator it is the correct numeral that is shown. Note that the minute arrow is not connected to the hour cube and once the arrow gets to 60 it will drop down to 0 to meet the next rotating hour block. In between the minute indicator and the rotating hour hand lies a power reserve indicator (top) and day/night indicator (bottom). However the excitement does not stop here. Turn the watch to its back and you will see another world’s first! It is the ‘service indicator’. Have you ever thought of that? The Opus 5 will need to be serviced by 5 years time, and it indicates from 0 to 5. When the hand reaches 0 that’s when the owner needs to bring it back to Geneva where the Opus 5 will be serviced. The indicator only works when the movement is working, if the Opus 5 stays in the safe, then the indicator will not move at all.
