I HAVE A FRIEND WHO TOLD ME HE HVAE KILLED MAY RABBITS WITH HIS 707 AND HE SAID FROM AS FAR AWAY AS 80 YARDS I SAID NO WAY. FOR AN AIRGUN TO SHOOT THAT FAR IT WOULD HAVE TO BE A CUSTOM JOB AND
WOULD COST A MIN OF $ 1000. SO, IS HE TELLING ME THE TRUTH?
THANKS
STEPHAN

I have seen these guns and action and know that they are capable of putting a rabbit down at 80yrds. The thing is that they have an adjustable power setting. The top setting is extremely powerful.

Hi there !

I am james and do frequent air rifle hunting in Papua, Indonesia. Since other than cal.177 is strictly prohibited, we use either pump guns or precharged rifles. Mainly we shoot big wood pigeons (up to almost 1 kg) sitting high up a tree branch, sometimes as high as 80 mtrs (not including the distance to the tree). We manage to get them though. I have to copies (Indonesian made) English rifles (Titan and Falcon) wich I tuned up myself. Depending on how I set the power I can either shoot 25 times straight producing aprox. 17 footpounds, or have to be content with just 10 0r 12 shots, having a power that can penetrate an iron barrel (drum). With this setting I already shot dear and wild board. Medium settings are for kangoeroes, wood chicken, possumlike marsupials, crown pigeons, hornbills, big varana's (10-40 kg) and other game... But mind you I hunt merely for food. I don't shoot what I don't eat. I also set traps for the bigger dear, boar, and wild cattle. Yes we have a hunting paradise still. You should drop by and give it a try.

As for precharged rifles like the Career, Sumatra, Condor, Fx, Daystate and the like, they are without a doubt very good rifles, but I simply never will have the money to buy one. The Indonesian ones are good enough so far. Besides, every pneumatick or precharged can be boosted up to close to a .22 rimrifle. Ask Dennis Quackenbush in America. There are formula's that relate barrellength, tube volume, sturdiness of the bold spring, outlet hole, length of the valve etc. Since we cannot easily grab a .22 rim we are bound to use what is at hand and boost it up. The problem here is finding the right materials and working equipment (tools).

Well, it has been nice informing you about the hunting spirit in a far corner of the world. I apologize for incorrect use of your language. I am Dutch, married to a beautiful girl from the Island of Supriori. She goes with me the day after tomorrow. She spots game faster than I do.

Kind regards from remote Manokwari, Papua.
