Well.

July 25 2008, 9:34 AM

Let's hope that this is one of those long threads that we're still writing long after the tea interval...

A "Titanic" struggle?

July 25 2008, 10:40 AM

And lets hope they fight hard today. We'll lose, but the manner of losing will be a good indication of whether we have the bottle to mount the resistance necessary to escape demotion. Alas, I have my doubts.

Brophy gone

Well, there goes our last reasonable hope of saving it.

Lyth still there

July 25 2008, 12:54 PM

Good knock from the lad, he and Ras still there coming up to lunch. Nice to see a bit of grit shown by our younger players

No good being sorry now!
If (when ) we lose and subsequently get relegated it's all YOUR fault.
I hope you're proud of yourself.

100

Congrats to Lyth. Brilliant stuff, his first first-class century.

Perhaps a bit of negative magic

July 25 2008, 2:28 PM

happened last night when there was a totally mystifying call for Lyth to be dropped!
If Moxon seems a bit clueless at times, the WRF runs him close more often than we like to think.

RE Yeah yeah yeah

July 25 2008, 2:29 PM

Not really, my words of encouragement could be the reason that Lyth went on to make his 100.

Well done Mr. Chinno.

July 25 2008, 2:30 PM

If he goes on to get a double century we might even win ...

Lythy's ears must have been burning last night, good motivation for him to prove his critics wrong.

Good grief, what is it about posting messages in this thread that causes a flurry of wickets.

Lyth and Bresnan gone in quick succession. Over bar the shouting.

Positives - Lyth's ton and Adil's back among the wickets. Naved batted so the injury might be too serious.

290 all out

July 25 2008, 4:18 PM

Another good fighting rearguard action as against Kent but another loss. Why can`t we play like we have today, and the last day against Kent, all the match. Only when we have all but lost the matches, do we then start putting in fighting performances.

I think however,

July 25 2008, 4:22 PM

That it still says something good about the spirit in our dressing room.
Well done Adam - let's hope that it's the first of many.
(If Mark Ealham can get 7 wickets I'm going to start playing again...)

2 big matches

July 25 2008, 4:41 PM

Surrey and Hants next, lose both of them and we will be going down. Surrey have Ramps who nearly always score big against us and Butcher will be back and Hants have the magnificent Tahir to haunt us. Two MUST WIN matches and two tough ones. Hope Mags is back as we are certainly going to need him, Naved should be ok according to the reports it`s just a trapped nerve and he should be fine in a couple of days. Hamstrings normally take 6 to 8 weeks so not so confident with Mags.

Re: 2 big matches

July 25 2008, 5:27 PM

Disappointing.

Ealham is a consistent, medium, wicket-to-wicket bowler. I've not been at the game but for him to get 10 wickets in the match suggests poor shot selection/technique by our batsmen. It's not as if they've been blasted out by Younis or outthought by Warne. I think there's a lot of work to do if we are to salvage something from this season.

Hampshire

July 25 2008, 8:16 PM

What actually helps us a lot is the rather pathetic decison by Hampshire not to go for a victory with only ten runs needed and three wickets in hand. I think it's safe to say they would have adopted a different approach if Warne has still been captain. If they get relegated they should look back on their negativity with some shame - particularly after Tahir's brilliant all round performance...
