For some reson people on this forun keep claiming that Yorkshre have only won 2 games out of the last 28 championship games.
In 2008 Yorks only won 2 out of 16 championship matches which isn't good. BUT we did beat Warwickshire by an innings at Scarborough in August so have actually won THREE of the last 28 games. ... btw We did win 3 of the previous 4 games to make if 7 our of 32 .... but of course that doesn't suit the doom mongers
You are splitting hairs, Depressed. Whether we have won 2 or 3 of our last 28, either is appalling in the context of Yorkshire's great history. We are VERY lucky to still be in the first division with a record of incompetence such as that.
By by the way we have 3 wins, 9 losses and 16 draws in our past 28 matches.
Some of the draws could also have been losses without weather interruptions. The most recent example was the Sussex match at Scarborough early September, with over two days lost to rain it saved us from defeat.
How we have remained in the first division the past two seasons is beyond me.
It just shows the poor quality of Division 1 cricket and also the flawed nature of the scoring system.
With a record like that we deserve to be in Division 2. Yet if you can rack up enough bonus points even a team with as little killing instinct as Yorkshire can prosper.
The problem is that we were in that position to begin with.
If we want to win the Championship we need to actually start taking 20 wickets in a game, something we havent doen more than three times in the last 28 attempts.
As I pointed out the people choosing 28 games are taking the worst possible point. We won 3 out of the first 4 games ... then it rained & most of the next 6 games were washed out. But we were completely safe in 2007 after Warwick decided they didnt want to be at Scarborough & capitulated in under 3 days.
This season we only won 2 but we were doing better in many of the rain affected games. Can the 'lets sign everyone up' crowd please remember that we actually competed for most of the games we lost ... then switched off for 1 or 2 sessions & effectively lost the game. What's needed is to stop 'the drift' rather than root & branch surgery
you have got to remember a yorkie always looks on the black side.they like nothing better than a good whinge. and dont let the facts get in the way. fact 1. next season we are in the top division of all competitions. fact 2. we have a great crop of home grown players who are improving beyond all expectations. i always hope for a positive attitude but i am usually disappointed.
is irrelevant and i suspect if you look at stas for other counties you will see a similar low percentage of wins - the 2 division format means fewer outright victories as there are not as many easy games, the poor weather has meant drawn games over 2 or 3 days instead of results over 4 and the closeness of the teams has meant that fewer risks and risky declarations have been taken.
I bet Surrey for one would be happy with 2 or 3 out of 28....
