A very strange quote in the Yorkshire Evening Press tonight.
Yorkshire are hoping to name a new overseas seam bowler within the next 48 hours. The name of their main target is under wraps at the moment, but he is thought to be someone involved in the breakaway Indian Cricket League.
Very strange!!
Are we getting rid of Naved?
Are we replacing one ICL player with another that might get banned?
Why are we getting rid of one potential problem (a ban for competing in the ICL) and replacing it with another problem. Why can we not get a player who has no ICL connections?
Following is a list of the "star" names playing in the ICL this season staring November 30th. Quite frankly I do not fancy any of them as our "overseas bowler. None of them are any better than who we have at the present. Interesting to see who it will be.
The biggest draws for the ICL at present are Brian Lara, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Lance Klusener, Chris Cairns, Nathan Astle, Chris Harris, Abdul Razzaq, Azhar Mahmood, Imran Farhat, Nicky Boje, Vikram Solanki, Paul Nixon, Hamish Marshall, Dinesh Mongia and Deep Dasgupta.
After a lull in recruitment, several England cricketers - including Paul Nixon, Chris Read and Vikram Solanki - and South African cricketers such as Dale Benkenstein signed up for the ICL in the fortnight before the teams for the tournament were announced.
suspect there is some confusion over which Indian league is being referred to and if its just another announcement to tell us that rana has been retained for another year its hardly worthy of the announcement at all as this is the current position based on his contract anyway.
Lets face it, players are playing in the ICL (unofficial?) for money so why can't the counties think about money first and break the contracts of any players who will stop them from being able to enter the T20 tournament for the winners of the domestic games?

well that would depend on the terms of the contract and who has broken the terms.
I agree its difficult for the counties to break a legally binding contract and its unlikley that the contracts will have a relevant clause saying that playing in unofficial leagues or playing somewhere which then restricts the earnings potential of other players or the club is in breach of contract - with hindsight I am sure these clauses will now be inserted but at the time Rana signed his contract it was pre-ICL.
Our best hope is that his shoulder goes again in the winter and he is unavailable through injury to return next season
