Former England Under-19 batsman, Adam Lyth, has reaped the rewards of a tremendous 2008 season with a new 3-year contract at The Yorkshire County Cricket Club. The 21-year-old Whitby born left-hander played 14 LV County Championship matches this season scoring 645 runs, including a maiden century 132 against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in July. He also represented Yorkshire Carnegie in 16 one-day matches in 2008 and won the Young Player of the Year Award for his season's exploits.

Adam has a busy winter ahead of him. He will spend three months in South Australia this winter playing grade cricket in Adelaide as part of the ECBs Scholarship Programme before rejoining the Yorkshire squad in the UAE for the pre-season tour.

Adam Lyth said: It was always my dream to play cricket for Yorkshire. 2008 has gone really well for me and my challenge now is to continue the hard work into 2009 and beyond. Im delighted to have signed a 3-year deal as this is where I want to play my cricket and I think there are exciting times ahead for the club.

Stewart Regan , Yorkshire Chief Executive, said: It is great news that a young player like Adam Lyth, with huge talent and potential, sees his future with Yorkshire . Adam started 2008 hoping to get a chance in the 1st Team and ended the summer a 1st Team regular. Im sure he has a very bright future at Headingley Carnegie as he builds on the progress he has already made.

Easily the MOST significant signing of the off-season. Now if we can jettison Rana Naved and sign on a healthy, committed strike bowler, I`d take bets on us finishing in the top three in th CC
