One couldn't help liking Mark. I remember the bloke returning to Scarborough with Sussex after he left us. Robinson came in to bat & after his first single was given a semi-sarcatic clap by some of the crowd. Many cricketers who would have taken offense but not Robbo who held up his bat in celebration & received the deserved congratulatury round of applause/cheer.

Mark was a very likeable chap, it didn' help him that he had poor vision in his eyes.

Mark Robinson the coach

December 6 2008, 7:13 AM

I was told a lovely story about Mark Robinson in his days as a coach / cricket development officer in the East Riding. Apparently he was working in the nets with some under 12s and helping with their basic technique. There was one particularly promising batsman in the nets who kept playing rash shots. Mark went behind the net and started commenting on the way he was playing. After about two minutes, the boy concerned turned round and asked Mark his batting average, along with a strong comment that he should sort himself out before interfering in things he obviously knew nothing about! The club coach had great difficulty in reprimanding the boy concerned without creasing up in laughter!
