Patel really is developing into the wrong sort of cricketer and needs some strong management.
He has some talent and would be a one day team asset due to his versatility but he appears to bve always available for a quote (sometimes when he has only just walked into that teams changing room), he seems to think he has more ability than he may have and hence deserve an IPL contract (which he did not get) and now he does not seem to heed warnings about his fitness when there was a golden opportunity for him to play for the national team expecially with Swanny being injured.
Compare with Adil who I rarely see quoted in the press and if he is its usually a very bland non-controversial comment, works hard at his game and listens to the advice given and quietly goes about his business in a very professional manner
I'm not too impressed with this fitness test lark. Colin Milburn would have been God's gift to twenty/20, the only problem is, he'd not be allowed on the pitch.
I have always seen Patel as mouthy and arrogant, now it appears he is un-responsive to warnings, overweight and un-fit as well. Not a good advert for the game or role-model for any up and coming young cricketers.
Patel is different to both Milburn & Lehmann ... the later 2 were 'large' but could bat & bat & bat ... I've a feeling that it was Patel who 'ran out of puff' after 70-90 mins in the last game of 2008 when Notts had to win to get the championship. Patel struggled on but his dismissal wasnt unexpected
in a desperate two hours of need on a train journey back from London I bought Spin magazine to read (having already read All Out Cricket and WCM this month).
Even they were slagging off Patel for his brash cockiness despite him having given them an exclusive interview the month before!
