This is great news. Given the dodgy economic times, to have a solid sponsorship in place can only be good for the venerable old Championship. Compared to other sports, the CC is still good value.
Great news. As a big CC supporter, I'm over the moon on this decision.Who knows, maybe cricket will weather the recession/depression without too much damage.
I'm pleased that the CC has secured its sponsorship. In all the hype of "hit and giggle" cricket, its good to know that the CC will continue. Perhaps if the powers at the ECB actually promoted it, more people would go. I took my 8 year old last year to his first championship game and he loved it. In fact he wanted to go the next day as well, and said he enjoyed watching the proper cricket rather than T20. You'd never believe it from the press, but even people under 50 love championship cricket! Work limits the time we can go, but the scores are usually open on my computer!!! How about timing more Saturday / Sunday finishes in the schedule?
I'm also well under 50 and much prefer a day watching the County Championship over twenty20.
So much so that this year I've opted out of going to the twenty20 stuff this season on my membership. I get to see enough drunken morons during the football season without having to see them at the cricket as well.
