Yorkshire vs Leicestershire
Start time: 2:30 Headingley Carnegie
PREVIEW: Yorkshire will be looking to put aside early season disappointments in both the FPT and the County Championship, with a good showing in the "crash bang wallop cricket" format of the Twenty20 Cup. With Rana Naved apparently(?) cleared to play after his ICL contract was terminated, Yorkshire should be able to put out a nearly full-strength team. One notable absentee will likely be key all-rounder Tim Bresnan who will almost certainly be 'rested' after the exertions of today's ODI and the fact there is a 3rd ODI to be played on Tuesday.

I would assume Rudolph and Brophy will (should) open, so where what about the rest of the lineup? While there is precious little strategy in these slogs, getting the batting lineup right is the key to victory. I can't see Vaughan opening or Sayers playing.

To be fair it would mean three matches on the trot for Bresnan. ODI, T20, ODI in three days. Getting injured would seem to be the main reason he won't play for Yorkshire tomorrow. Hopefully, the ECB won;t deny the clounties some of their big guns for the rest of the T20 Cup.
I would think Bressy would be available for the Roses match on May 29.
I would go with Naved, Brophy, Gale, Vaughan, Mags, Rudolph, Lyth, Pyrah, Shazad, Rashid and Wainwright.
Taylor to come in if Gale, Vaughan, Mags, Rudolph or Lyth don`t perform and Bresnan in for Rashid when he returns from England duties.
Given that Gerry Brophy still has a dodgy hand and Rana might get the green light to play then the team will be different to what you are suggesting. I think it might be:
Let the Twenty-2- circus begin. How much more engaging it could have been if T20 had been scheduled on a Sunday's only basis, like the former 40-over Sunday league. The current format - all T20 all the time time for weeks on end - has all the earmarks of overkill.

I don't know about "weeks on end" but it certainly seem that way after a few days. This "baseball" style, limited strategy variation of the game is very easy (for me, at least) to tire of. I've seen several T20 matches over the past few years, and can hardly remember who played, let alone who won. They come off as cricket confectionery to me. I'll probably give them a pass this year.
I think Karl's notion of a T20 Sunday league is quite appealing. It would fit nicely into the plans of many families. Its probably the only way I could get my two sons to attend cricket on a regular basis, and engage them in a "league" style chase for the title.

It must be part of the strategy of these games, not to announce your team until the last minute. Nothing from Leicestershire, and I don't see anything on the official site for Yorkshire.

Just up on Cricinfo:
Yorkshire team (incomplete)
GJ Kruis, DJ Wainwright, MP Vaughan, A Shahzad, captainA McGrath, A Lyth, JA Rudolph, RM Pyrah, AW Gale, wicketkeeperSM Guy
Leicestershire team (incomplete)
WA White, J Allenby, HD Ackerman, MAG Boyce, wicketkeeperPA Nixon, JWA Taylor, SJ Cliff, JKH Naik, captainHH Dippenaar, CW Henderson
Our esteemeed moderator put in a brief appearance today for the foxes, and he did his best to ensure a Yorkshire victory. Well played Alex.
Very impressive new scoreboard and it worked!! Lost the toss again - now 17 from 18 season record and yet again we made very hard work of a run chase.

An exciting finish but we just when we seemed to be grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory up stepped Shazad and we crept over the line by the skins of our teeth !
I can't help but feel we got our batting order wrong in the later overs.....we were quite clearly losing momentum at a rapid pace and I would have had Rana stepping out to the crease before Pyrah or Lyth in the situation we were in.....a few heavy strokes at that time would surely have helped put us in a far better position.
We appeared to be the beneficiaries of a run out decision involving McGrath but Nixon's reaction to the events were a bit on the unsavioury side.....I know he is a passionate cricketer but....
And what about THAT attempt to catch MPV !!, has anybody seen a worse effort !.....some credit though to the little chap James Taylor, he batted and bowled well and a wonder catch to dismiss Rudolph....he was impressive.
On the bowling front for Yorkshire, I thought both Rana and Kruis bowled well especially when the bat was flailing around at the end..

Yes, the new scoreboard was very impressive, with all its little charts etc - although I was sceptical at the start when an advert was still there when a couple of balls had already been bowled, and the 'S' in FOXES merged with the score and so was unreadable, but these were soon sorted out; however, it did look good.
Nothing much to say other than what's already been said, although I will re-iterate the fact that Taylor's catch was absolutely magnificent.
Come on Mick, you also missed the comma that was in the wrong place, the apostrophe that was before the 's' not after it and the size of the font! Oh and the colours were a little too bright as well.
I wonder if there is anything that the club has done since 2001 that has been greeted positively.

Sorry, you must have missed the points I made stating that I thought the scoreboard was 'very impressive' and also that it 'did look good' - in fact, although I pointed out a couple of faults with it, I also noted that they were soon sorted out (as it happens, I feel that a scoreboard not working for the full match and being temporarily partly unreadable were worthwhile points, just as I feel that this scoreboard is a vast improvement on the previous effort).

Whilst not being a great fan of the "hit and giggle" game because it involves a lot of luck, yesterday's game was certainly entertaining. Given it's so short, the game swings from one extreme to another really quickly and we went from cruise mode to despair and then the joy of victory in about 20 minutes. On the plus side, I thought we bowled pretty well and there was some good fielding from the younger members of the side. Rana and Deon bowled really well but it was still a competitive score to chase. For me there were some very good signs for this the team:-
1. If he stays fit, Shazad could be a real star. He bowled well with some interesting changes of pace and that's twice this season I've seen him get quick runs. He could be a really useful bat; he hits straight and its more than just slogging.
2. Rana looked like he was giving 100% yesterday, and despite everything that has gone before, he obviously is a very useful player. It was also really encouraging yesterday that he seems to have become part of the side with lots of encouragement from the other players
3. Deon Kruis continues to deliver consistently. I've yet to see him bowl a bad spell this season and he is once again a key part of our one day side
4. Michael Vaughan showed that even in this form of cricket, real class still delivers. If he can play consistently as he did yesterday, he can be the basis for others to play big shots around him whilst scoring fairly quickly himself
Finally I have to say that the new video screen is terrific, but I do miss the old one. Part of the fun of going to Headingley used to be trying to guess the missing bits on the old screen!

Taaa for the ERT .... the problem with Shahzad is that your comment could have been made in each of the last 3 (or is it 4) seasons ..... & the comments on the previous scoreboard did make me laugh.
Was there a good crowd there? We keep being told that 20/20 is the future of cricket but my perception is that the public are already tiring of it. Was there a full house yesterday?

Yes would like to know the answer to the crowd number also the crowds at other matches would be a good indication of the appeal of this so called cricket format, why don't counties divulge the attendance figures in the result section of the media like football and Rugby do for example

There wasn't a full house but it was fuller than I've seen it this season - I would guess about 7,000-8,000; it's hard to judge though as they were interspersed around the ground.
I would guess that's about as many as we were getting for the FPT qualifiers?
I don't think 20/20 is going to have the long term appeal everyone is predicting.
I know we've said it before as a joke but i do think that a regular Sunday afternoon 40 over league would be more popular in the long term...... Again.

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. My wife and I went, and took our daughter and her friend. A good time was had by all. I won't add (much) to the comments on the match, as it's all been said above, except to reiterate that the catch by Taylor to dismiss Rudolph was simply amazing. For a bleached-hair hobbit, he can't half move! Nobody has mentioned a curiosity when Wainwright took a tidy catch on the square leg boundary off Rana. Everyone ran to congratulate Auntie, leaving Rana stood halfway down the wicket with his arms out but nobody to hug! There was a much better response though when he bowled Nixon.
The crowd was good considering the other distractions on a Bank Holiday Monday, and the promise of showers mid-afternoon. The rain started falling five minutes after the end of the match, which was fortunate as we were behind D/L right up to the end.
Friday night against Lancs should prove a big night. I've heard that 10,000 tickets have been sold already.
