Even if Swann does play there still could be room for Rashid, especially if KP is still injured. I can see Dimi coming in instead of SiBo, they need a player who has the ability to hit the ball over the rope, but if England just played good shots without chucking away their wicket, they can put together a good score.

I'd go with

Bopara
Wright
KP
Shah
Colly
Morgan
Dimi
Foster
Swann
Broad
Anderson

if Kp is out then I'd go for

Bopara
Wright
Shah
Colly
Morgan
Dimi
Rashid
Foster
Swann
Broad
Anderson

I'm surprised Rashid stayed in the side. Good on him, but you have to think he will need to bowl (and bat) well in this match to keep his place.

Well he didn't need to bat, but did really well with his bowling, so congratulations to him!

Listened to most of the England innings on the radio & watched the Pakistan one on TV ... the difference in the field was noticable ... against Holland the team looked disinterested ... today they were 'up for it'. On Friday Adil was bowled 'because it was his turn' today he was put on after a couple of wickets had fallen. It was good to see Pakistan supporters streaming out of the ground before the end. If Pakistan don't beat Holland 'well' they are out.

"The rumours of his being dropped have been greatly exaggerated"

A quote from the Cricinfo commentary:

"Adil Rashid bowled with impressive composure."

Well, contrary to what the moaners forecast on here,Adil has played in both matches,a bit of stick against Holland, but not the only one and far from the worst on show, whilst yesterday he bowled well, restricted the scoring and contributed to England's win.
With two seamers from Either Broad,Anderson and Sidebottom, plus three all -rounders able to bowl seam up in Collingwood ,Wright and Mascharenas,England can afford the luxury of both spinners in Swann and Adil, who can both also contribute with the bat.
We've seen already in the competition bowlers who take the pace off the ball have been th most successful, and Adil Rashid will not be carrying the drinks, but continue to be an integral part of the line-up.
His confidence and maturity have shone through already, well done to him,and here's hoping we'll go all the way.

England selection

June 8 2009, 11:36 AM

I hate to say it as cricket is very much a team game but if Pietersen had played against Holland then I am sure we would have won. i could not see him letting their bowlers be as successful in the latter half of the innings as the other batsmen did and with the strong platform to build from a 100+ opening stand he would have had licence to throw the bat at everything.

I think we played Pakistan at the right time yesterday - they have not had much cricket and especially in our conditions but as the tournament progresses I expect them to quickly acclimatise and improve.

I cannot see Pakistan losing to Holland so as long as they beat them more convincingly than England beat Pakistan then Pakistan will progress.

I think the Aussies have more to worry about as they must beat Sri Lanka to have a chance

A much better all round performance and great to see Rashid in the team and doing very well - we should also have more faith in his all round abilities. Along with Pyrah, he would be in my one day team - both are fine fielders.

Well Pietersen didn't play against Holland because he could barely walk on Friday.
I think you'll find that any sort of result between Pakistan and Holland cannot now prevent England from qualifying for the next stage.
