What do you think he'll do?
"It completely depends on the individual. I didn't want to go on playing county cricket when I finished with England. I didn't see the point. For me, the whole point of playing county cricket was to play for England. But others see it differently. Marcus Trescothick was happy to carry on playing for Somerset and Darren Gough continued after his England days were over."

He obviously has to decide for himself what he wants to do but, how many games, weeks, month's, seasons do Yorkshire give him if he wants to carry on but isn't producing?

I think the time is right for him to leave. He's not helping Yorkshire and his embarrassing quest to get back into the England side is a non-runner. I hope he goes sooner rather than later, as preventing a younger player (Lyth) from playing, and forcing us to play our best stroke player too high in the order.
He's a had a good career, and helped England to win the Ashes. Its time to move on.
And if he decided to retire now, there are many on this Forum who would happilly crucify him for retiring at the end of his Engalnd career and not "putting anything back" to the County that nurtured his development...
There are those who will continue to criticise him wahtever he does.

His position is confusing, whilst he remains a centrally contracted player, then England have first call on his services. The presumed loss of that contract at the end of the season will have an ifluence on any descision about his future, with a wife and young family to consider
As long as he's fit Yorkshire will select him subject to ECB approval.
Now I,m sure it is Michaael's dearest wish that he starts to get big runs for Yorkshire very soon,or his position will change, and descisions may well have to be made for him.
Taking the optimistic view that the championship runs do come, whether batting at nos 1,2 3 or anywhere else, then a re-assesment at the end of the season will take place.
Does he want to continue a oounty career which at 35 can offer him little but some personal satisfaction and perhaps a part in future triumphs,or would he consider the captaincy once more and a chance to lead his county to those triumphs. He may even get the opportunity of The Coach's Job if Moxon feels the need to re-consider his position
Perhaps even a clean break from Yorkshire and all the baggage that goes with,a move to a fashionable southern county and a lucrative salary for a three year deal. It's happened before.
Then there is retirement,a media career.pontificating in The SKY BOX with all his mates,a regular syndicated newspaper column, another book deal, and expanding his promising future in The Arts.
For such a talented indivuidual the possibilities are endless.
He'll take a little time to decide no doubt.
The comparisons with Atherton's career are close, but will they continue in the same direction?

I think after his injuries he would still be looking to play a bit longer yet and had hoped we would be the beneficiaries of this. However, on current form he is further away from an England recall than ever before and his next move out of the Yorkshire first team is more likely to be to our 2nd XI.
The danger is of course that we release him and another county picks him up and he comes back to haunt us
