A note about the White Rose Forum

I must confess that I have been a WRF lurker for several years, having not posted before. My eyesight is shot, and its very difficult for me to type into a computer screen. (My wife is doing the honours for me now.)

I just wanted to say how much I enjoy this excellent forum and following the team on the White Rose Forum. To say that the posts are well-informed and interesting would be an understatement in the extreme. In fact, this is one of the best online sports forum I've encountered.

And a special thanks to the moderators who manage to keep everything civilized and on the up-and-up, in spite of the fact that Yorkshireman are by nature strongly opinionated, argumentative, and can sometimes be quite boorish about their sports.

I believe our main moderator is an ex-pat who lives in Canada, which makes the success and quality of this site all the morning extraordinary. I certainly hope the YCCC appreciates all that he has done for the club. I can only assume he has been awarded an honourary membership, or at least some token of the clubs appreciation for his efforts.

Thanks for reading this, and good luck to the club. (We wont be demoted!)

I'll second that. Very informative and almost a community-like spirit. Thanks to the mods.

Thanks Mom!

Seriously, we have an excellent WRF Advisory Committee, attentive moderators and most importantly supportive, well-informed, and articulate members and posters. The rest is easy.

Shame we can't win a single game.

You are quick, Cinderhills

And most of us, despite being Yorkshiremen, do not take ourselves too seriously (I did say "most") - although, we do take the team's fortunes and misfortunes seriously.

Thanks for taking the trouble to thank Alex - he spends hours working on this site and gets no personal reward of any sort. Without him, we wouldn't be here.

This is a good opportunity for me to add my thanks to Alex (and the assistant moderators) for his time and efforts.

The discussions on the WRF are excellent and it is the first point of call for news relating to YCCC (it saves me scouring several websites for hours).

Agreed, thanks 7thson for taking the time to say hello. The boss does indeed do a fine job keeping everything ticking along smoothly round here.

Just a shame he's lumbered with a team who repay his efforts with mediocrity.

If Yorkshire played as well as the WRF was run we'd be county champions.

hurrah

July 1 2009, 8:37 AM

its great to see that our 'frustrations' and opinions can please people and sometimes going back and looking over old threads they do make great reading even if its just for me to look at some of my own posts and think what on earth am I on about.

I agree if the team was as good as the fans posts then not only would we win the CC every year but as the old joke goes we aould also win the Derby, Grand National, FA Cup and the Boat Race as well...

Not being a Yorkshireman,or a supporter of the county,I'd expect some parochial opposition when I post on the WRF.
However I,m happy to say, that unlike other places, there are plenty prepared to put county bias to one side and debate honestly and interestingly without recourse to county bias.
Long may it continue, and it's mods.remain in control, but just one little query Alex whilst I'm here.
Why am I unable to set up new threads? Is it my fault or have I been deliberately oprevented from so doing?

Setting up new threads

July 1 2009, 1:49 PM

There should not be a problem setting up new threads. Besides, the moderators don't have the facility to stop posters from setting up threads per se, although we obviously have the ability to ban individual posters by flagging IP addresses.

And no one else has reported problems with setting up threads.

To set up a thread, simply click on the "Post Now" option in the right hand side just above the message section, and fill in your own title in the blank "Message Title" line.

That's what I,ve been doing Alex, but having written my message the only option I then get is to preview my post, but not one to respond,or to send.
Help please!

I think there is another smaller grey box next to the preview post box and it used to say 'Post message' in it but I have found the text is n ot there.

However, if you click on the smaller grey box without any text (next ot the preview grey box) it should work.

Have a go and see

I'll check with the N54 (our host site), but given that our moderators have no way to prevent posters from starting threads, it is a puzzle. You are not in in the "Blocked IP" file either, so it is hard to understand. Perhaps the monitor you are using doesn't show all the graphical features of the site. And no one else has ever had this problem - or at least, they haven't told us about it.

Thanks well earned

July 4 2009, 5:40 AM

On a strange computer, 2600 miles from home, so I'll be brief. Just want add my thanks to those already posted for Alex and the exceptional and selfless job he does for the WR Forum, and to the others like Stu Acton and Steve Cowton who've helped along the way (and still are!).

Incidentally and albeit from a distance, I detect less a Yorkshire loss yesterday (no slipshod fielding, vital catches dropped, or sloppy no-balls and wides) than a truly enviable victory by a pretty small county. Even on the Taunton track, a century by a no. 7, in barely an hour, at a 191 strike-rate more reminiscent of a T-20 smashup, is a hell of an achievement.
