not a bad few days to not have a CC game looking at the weather and the forecast.
Warks v Sussex already has rain stopped play with Warks 5-1 so lets pray for the rain to keep coming down and deprive one of them a win and bonus points for both sides.
Elsewhere old Yorkie Gavin Hamilton is 80 not out for Scotland v Canada and its the Varsity match but don't ask me if any of the players have any connections with Yorkshire!
Didn't even get a trial, I'm afraid, though I was in the freshers' trial at rugby union - my third game of RU ever (I'd played RL for Shaw Cross Boys' Club).
Actually didn't play much cricket at university, partly because in my last year at school I'd had my right thumb nail removed by a Hanging Heaton fast bowler who went on to play briefly for Hertfordshire.
The first 3 bowlers for Sussex are all overseas players. That really is taking the kolpack/overseas imports situation to far. Have they, or will they produce any fast bowlers of their own.
Unfortunately, Warwickshire rallied to 349-9 and so will probably pocket 4 batting bonus points. Sussex, of course gets 3 bowling points.
A 12-point draw would put Warwicks 4 points behind Yorkshire with a match in hand. A draw would move Sussex ahead of Yorkshire.
One way or the other we are likley going to be in 8th place and slumping going into the match against Durham. If we don't beat either first-place Durham or secon-place Notts (our next two matches) we will probably drop to 9th and the "Fat Lady" will be bellowing "On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at."
I think that G is either being pesimistic or cant count. There are only 9 teams in the division ... so it Durham & Sussex draw we'll be 7th. Worcester already look doomed so realistically we're fighting to stay out of 8th place.
Sussex did Yorkshire a small favour in declaring with 8 down against Warwicks, and denying Yorkshire's fellow demotion strugglers a vital bowling point. It may not mean much now, but we'll see as the season moves on.
Worcestershire look like they will roll over and hand Lanky a big win. This is a blow for the Tykes as it puts another team out of reach in the table: Lanky only being 9 points up on us before this round of matches.
Its looking more and more like the struggle to avoid 8th and the last demotion spot will be between Warwickshire, Yorkshire and Sussex. One of the three will likely go down with Worcestershire.
Looks like e result for sure, but neither will get any batting points. A Lancs loss would probably be better for Yorkshire since I think Worcester is going to be demoted anyway.
Lanky crashed to 145 and Worcestershire now have a real chance of upsetting the red rose.
Somerset-Hampshire looks a draw with rain and Somerset having not yet completed their first innings.
If Yorkshire conspire to lose this match and not get any batting bonus points, we would only be 8 points above 8th place Warwicks, but with Warwicks having TWO matches in hand. If last-place Worcestershire win their match and beat Lanky, Worcestershire would only be 9 points adrift of Yorkshire for last place!
Chill out. This is the half way point of the season. Obviously the a win would be a big boost but we don't get relegated of we draw this game, which is what everyone seems to be saying with "must win".
A Worc win probably helps us out and they're on top at the moment.
Well Lanky won as expected. Worcester are for all intents and purposes demoted. So now Yorkshire has to beat out only one other team to stay in divi one.
Somerset are likely headed for an innings victory over Hants.
Thus, if the Tykes beat Durham, we would be in 5th spot; if we lose we are in 7th only 11 points up on Warwicks but having played two more matches.
