Week 19 Preview
A full schedule of matches next week in both Divisions of the CC. Also next week are seven Pro-40 matches split between both divisions; and the Final test in the Aussies series commences at the Oval on Thursday.
In Division One of the CC the top three teams (Durham, Notts and Somerset) all have home matches against relegation candidates Warwickshire, Hants and Sussex.
The other match in Division One is the roses battle at Headingley. This is difficult to call as I expect Lancashire to be a lot stronger next week against Yorkshire than against Durham when they had 4 or 5 reserves in, the Headingley wicket tends to be flat, low and slow and proves difficult to get wickets on, and Yorkshire will be up for the match having broken their 20 match sequence without a win. The most likely result is a high scoring draw but I feel Yorkshire may just have the edge. My predictions are wins for the four home teams, which, if correct, will ease Yorkshire`s relegation problems.
In Division Two, the leaders Kent do not have a match, second place Derbyshire are are at home to Northants, third placed Gloucestershire travel to Grace road to play Leicestershire, 4th placed Essex are at home to Surrey and Glamorgan play Middlesex. The predictions in this Division are Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Essex and Glamorgan.
In the Pro-40 ties this week, my predictions are Somerset to win against Sussex, Kent to beat Leicestershire, Glamorgan to win against Middlesex, Durham and Essex to win against Hants and Worcestershire respectively and for Kent and Lancashire to win in Division Two against Derbyshire & Leicestershire. The Somerset/Sussex, Leics/Kent & Glamorgan/Middlesex Pro-40 ties are all being televised.
My final prediction this week, which I am sure will be very unpopular, is for Australia to win the final test match, win the series 2-1 and retain the ashes.
