That's the 50-over games against Australia, the Champions Trophy (I still don't understand the point of that thing), some game against Ireland, and the Twenty20s against Australia.

matches missed

August 17 2009, 4:25 PM

Both will miss every match in both competitions from after the Roses match. 4 CC matches and 4 Pro-40 games. The Warwickshire match finishes the day before the England/Australia Twenty/20 match so they might be allowed to play in that as well but nothings certain with Team England. We will have to assume that the Roses match is the last time we will see either of them playing for Yorkshire this season.

NOT HAPPY

August 17 2009, 4:45 PM

Well that's great then losing them could cost us dearly, Im ok for the test matches and the rules with ECB contracted players but cant help feeling some resentment towards the ECB, surly they cant make them miss the Warwickshire game and what compensation do we get if they do.

27th

August 17 2009, 5:24 PM

Forgot about the "Friendly" match England have against Ireland on the 27th. The "Roses" match WILL be the last match this season for Rashid and Bresnan. Warwickshire will be at full strength next week against us as well as there are no Warwickshire players in the squads.

There goes the first division

August 17 2009, 6:29 PM

This could tip us right into the second division. There is something very wrong with the current setup. The County Championship has been completely marginalized. The ECB has absolutely no respect for the county clubs. Hopefully, Stewart Regan will have the gumption to speak out on behalf of the county, but I won't hold my breath.

But what a great opportunity for players like Rafiq and Wainwright to step into the breach and prove themselves at a critical time. There could be a silver lining in this.

it wouldnt be so bad if they were certaintys to play in the England games but I think both are fringe squad players so they may miss our games as well as not play for England as well.

Sadly England has to come first but it does make a mockery of fixture lists, central contracts etc

Still NOT HAPPY

August 17 2009, 8:17 PM

From official site
The Yorkshire duo were named in England's 15-man squads for the forthcoming NatWest Series of One Day Internationals and International Twenty20 matches against Australia, The ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa and a 14-man squad for next weeks One-Day International against Ireland in Belfast.
Everyone at YCCC wished them both many congratulations and good luck over the next few weeks.

Maybe if included in the statement was say 'we are very disappointed to lose these two players at such a crucial point of the season for Yorkshire taking into consideration our current position in the Championship and the important games they will now miss, but we wish them and England well'

This may well have let the supporters know that the committee are concerned as the members about which division we play in next season, sometimes I honestly wonder if that is the case.

The statement on the site was written by me and goes nowhere near the Committee. I would however say it is safe to say that everyone at the Club is hugely disappointed to lose two key players at this time, but I'd also say that complaining about it will not change their absence from us.

Yorkshire CCC comes first for the majority of Yorkshire members and supporters I talk to (including me when I talk to myself!) and on that basis the loss of two all-rounders is tough, but as another poster said we do have strength in depth and it is a big chance for others to reinforce what they can do in the 1st XI.

The England team does compensate counties for the loss of players for domestic games when they are away from the Club due to international call ups and (like it or not) the key premise of county cricket is to feed the national side. Clubs get a significant amount of their funding from the ECB which obviously is generated mainly in the international arena and TV monies.

It is far from ideal, but also great for the two players concerned. Let's hope they play, play well and make their loss worthwhile. Let us also hope that our strength in depth shines through and we play and win without Adil and Tim.

Best wishes, James

Re: Still NOT HAPPY

Goodness me. Two Yorkshire born and bred players get selected in the top 15 one day players in the country and still people are unhappy and see the negatives.

What a great achievement for the two players to take the next step in their careers and what a wonderful advert for the Yorkshire academy and whole Yorkshire set up, well done to both Adil and Tim and all involved in their development.

Well said Alex, it is a great opportunity for others to have an extended run in the side.

Would some members rather have no national team and have county cricket as the pinnicle, I for one wouldn't!

I do, however, think that counties should be compensated with points in the Championship as well as/or instead of financially for international call ups. Say 1 bonus point for each CC match missed (and 1/2 a point for Lions/U19 call ups). This would give counties incentives to produce international players without losing out on the counties ambitions. This structure would basically give a county who lost a player all year i.e. Middlesex with Strauss an additional win (16 points v 14 for a win). So for this latest squad we would get 8 points (4 each for Rashid & Bresnan), relegation rivals Hampshire and Warwickshire would get 0 and Sussex 8 (Prior/Wright). I think this would be a fair compensation for the effect on our Championship run in.

It is great for the two players and testimony for Yorkshire's academy James but If we do get relegated it wont be so great for the club or its members no matter how much £ compensation we get for them missing the key games.
A solution would be as Golden Chance well thought out compensation suggestion which would go some way to appeasing the majority in future seasons.
I have been probably like all other Supporters on a high since Friday night and today's news has dampened that somewhat,if we were safe I wouldn't have minded so much but its Yorkshire first and will always be for me
Lets all hope we can beat Lancs and get the points required for saftey

Re: Still NOT HAPPY

There's a problem with giving money/points for lost players. We are losing Bresnan & Sayers who came through our accademy ... this season Notts have lost 2 bowlers ... Braod & Swann .. who they signed from elsewhere

I do think its a shame that we're losing Rashid .... for most of the season Adil has been awful .. not his fault though ... he looked like someone who's just had FAR too much advice so doesn't reeally know what he's doing anymore. Against Hants I'm told that Rash finally started bowling well ... & England are now going to do what they do best ... ruin bowlers ... before people accuse me of bais I'll quote Ryan Sidebottom. Ryan got into the England team by bowling a decent line & length at pace. 2 years in the England set up reduced Ryan to a medium paced pie chucker who could only bowl short.

Good news for the players concerned.

Bad news for Yorkshire County Cricket Club IF we get relegated.

And at the end of the day I support the club, not the England careers of individuals.

This is why county cricket is a waste of time for many fans. As James has pointed out it is there to feed the England team.

CC is a glorified net session, it is not even close to the pinnacle of the sport (unlike other domestic competitions like Premiership football, Super League rugby, NFL, etc).

I can understand why my cricket mad cousin has abandoned any interest in the county game and now just follows England.

How can we really blame (assess) Moxon as a head coach if we go down without our best players available. It's not a level playing field.

Re: Still NOT HAPPY

So the only solution is for all counties to have to stand down 2 players for the rest of the season to make it an even playing field?

Looking at our first division rivals other counties are similarly affected.

Sussex - Prior & Wright
Lancs - Anderson & Flintoff
Warks - Trott
Hants - KP (although injured)
Durham - Colly
Notts - Broad & Swann & Sidebottom
Worcts - not really an issue in view of their position
Somerset - no one!

Perhaps Somerset should be instructed to leave out Trescothick and Kieswetter in the interests of fairness all round and Hampshire leave out Mascerenhas (who I suspect will be called up when Flintoff inevitably breaks down injured).

Durham are so far ahead that its good for us that Onions and harmi can play for them for rest of season as they should blow away the opposition for cheap scores and limit batting bonus points.

So its not ideal but its the same story elsewhere as well.

It does mean we are going to need Rana to finish the season off as Bresnans replacement and go out in style so I hope he is returning a much improved bowler from his international sojourn and keen to impress someone foolish enough to offer him a contract for next season.

As for replacing Adil, we do have spin options both of whom can bat as well but Adil does seem to have found his mojo again - I cannot help but think that this is because he has been in the Yorkshire camp for a few months now and actually bowling instead of listening to Warne, Mushtaq etc in the England nets. Why can he not do the England 1-1s with Mushy etc in the winter when it does not bugger up his bowling for us?
