Waiting for Godot: Rana could have played his last game for us?

Heard James Buttler yesterday saying he is waiting in Pakistan to see if he's selected for the Champions Trophy squad (to be picked tomorrow). He said if he is picked then he has played his last game as he's not being retained for next season.

Also mentioned we would "go without" on O/S player for the last few games as there would be too much delay in getting visa's etc.

I wonder if we could get one of the Aussies that aren't in the one day squad to fill in for a bit while they're in the country?

thought someone said he was seen at Pudsey Congs ground last weekend?

He must have plenty of airmiles clocked up.

if we lose Bres then Rana could have been a useful presence, although its not too disastrous if he stays in Pakistan.

Hope we are not paying him whilst he 'hangs around' waiting for a squad to be announced

Loan moves

just a thought but perhaps we could have loaned Rana out to Lancashire in view of their seam bowling injury problems - and then allowed him to play against us in this game?

Waiting for Godot...err Rana.

Its hard not to notice that while Lancashire bowler (Lungley) - who was just brought in to shore up their decimated attack - took three Yorkshire wickets and tore the heart out of the top order, our disaffected and loyalty-challenged overseas player Rana Naved is languishing in Pakistan waiting to see if he's selected for the Champions Trophy squad.

It is still my opinion that signing Rana was a monumental mistake; and that not replacing him during his most recent absence would be an even bigger one. It could well cost Yorkshire a place in the first division next season; and its players a shot at the £500,000 prize that goes with winning the First division/County Championship.

Idle speculation

If Rana is indeed Godot, that would make Mags and Moxon into Vladimir and Estragon. I can only assume that James Buttler would be Lucky which would leave Stewart as Pozzo....
It's not a good image.

Ah, the benefits of having a theatre director in our midst.

Indeed.

Even if he does occasionally talk Krapp...

(No more predictions incidentally. I should have quit while I was ahead..)

Comedy of Errors

Morne Morkel is available - not selected by South Africa for the Champions Trophy.

Re: Morkel

but the original thread above says James Buttler advises we are not going to go for an overseas player to replace Rana due to the hassle over visas etc.

I still think lining up one of the Aussies left out of their one day squad may be best option but not sure they would want to play after the Ashes summer.

However, not sure which of Clark, Siddle, Lee, Hilfenhaus would be left out of their 1 day squad.

Perhaps we could have signed up Brett Lee for last few games so he had chance to prove to the Aussies that he was fully fit and recovered?

More importantly, i would hope we are already sorting out who to sign next season with a fast bowler being the obvious priority in view of Bres, Hoggy, Shahzad, Kruis and Rana all being potentially elsewhere.

When we signed Younus it was with some financial support from the Asian community I believe so perhaps we should be looking at young up and coming Pakistani fast bowlers as long as they are available all summer. Umar Gul?

However, as seen this summer, Pakistan do tend to have lots of international commitments over our summer period
