Rumour has it that Adams is trying to get Robert Key to move to the oval for next season. If Key feels in need of a fresh challenge I'd hope we might have a word with him. A quality opener, almost guarenteed not to be bothered by international calls and not a bad captain either. Could be exactly the signing we need for next season along with an overseas quick bowler.

1 player to many

At the moment we have Adam Lyth who can not get into the side although he deserves to be in on merit. Signing another batsman is going to make the situation even worse as we will then have to drop Johny Bairstow as well. WE do not need to sign any more batsmen as we have to many at the moment. All we need to do is to get the opening position sorted out from with our existing players.

nothing wrong with competition for places and lets face it the only reason we look to be OK with batters is because Mags is captain and cannot be dropped.

Key as a captain would be a real bonus - we can let Mags go to Sussex or Lancs.

Also are we sure Rudy will be around next year in view of our stated interest in Dippenaar, van Jaarlsveld etc?

I agree with Steve. Key is too fat to play 1st-class cricket. During a televised match a couple of months ago, he was seen to be out-of-breath after running a couple of singles. Also, his captaincy at Scarborough last season was very lacklustre. This idea has nothing going for it whatsoever.

At Scarborough Rudolph told a mate who asked that he will be at Yorkshire next year .... lets just hope that its at number 4.

Nothing against overweight cricketers ... Yorkshire's most recent hero was a small fat Aussie ... but don't think we need Key .... if he was as good a captain as they say Kent wouldn't have been relegated in BOTH leagues last year.

btw Another rumour is that Taylor is talking to Glamorgan .... an ex-Yorks opener going to Wales .... now where have I heard that ? .... the previous one is now playing for Honley (that came from his parents)

If Rob Key was knackered after running a few singles then I dread to think about the fitness of a lot of our players had they run as many in recent seasons! Well over a thousand runs every season, all I can assume is that he must hit a hell of a lot of fours and sixes!
Rob Key is just one of those players who looks unfit but isn't really and I guess Kent don't care what he looks like so long as he delivers and neither would I be.
We need an opener, we needed an opener last season but bodged and made do. Lets not do the same again. We do have some good younger players coming through (we have had for thirty years!) but only Sayers is an opener and then only at four day level. Key would also bring in experience, a possible option as captain but above maybe all else, an outside and fresh perspective on how things work and are done.
He'd be a great signing but it will never happen because if he were to mve then Surrey would offer him something better than we ever would.

why would he want to move to Yorkshire when he has just about led Kent back to div 1 of the LVCC and there is a chance we might pass him going the other way?

Some of our recent players hardly look like the perfect build for professional cricketers (Lehmann, Gough, Mags) and Inzy, Gatting and Colin Milburn might have something to say on the matter as well.

Talent, ability, commitment and performances will do for me and with the added bonus of being a potential captain I would suggest we should not discount for now.
