Gale opened and scored 40-odd for the 2nds v Somerset. Ballance and Rafiq both made half centuries to further push for a 1st team call up if Moxon is looking in that direction.

Somerset have a W Tavare opening the batting who i presume is son of Chris.

batsmen in form

i think we should play batsmen in form. we should not categorise them as 1 day or 4 day, joe sayers showed today he is a good player both 4 day and 1 day, andrew gale is a good player both 4 day and 1 day. adam lyth is a good player both 1 day and 4 day. play specialist bats and specialist bowlers, give them a run in the team and they will succeed.

From what I've read it was Gale who asked to play in the 2nds .... 'Windy' has lost his form recently & we need all the runs we can get ... so I actually think rhis is a positive ... well done Andrew

Absolutely

I've been HUGELY impressed by Andrew Gale this year. he's matured into a very fine cricketer - he's fit and has worked hard on improving his fielding. His batting always reflects the match situation, and he's one of the few players with positive body language on the field and a friendly affable approach off it. If we're looking for a new young captain next season from within the current squad, I would suggest that Gale has a lot more going for him than Mr Sayers..

Will Tavaré is Chris's nephew. He's the son of Chris's brother Jeremy, who played a bit for Gloucestershire. Came up through the Gloucs. junior ranks, so would seem to be taking a sideways move here.

Galey ended up with 102. It would have done McGrath surely more good to be down there too rather than [;ay in a meaningless pro 40 game
