One of the biggest tragedies of our season was the manner of Michael's departure. i don't suppose anyone would care to invite him to play in the otherwise meaningless 40 over game on sunday?
I know it won't happen - but would be a lovely way to say good bye and put a few hundred extra spectators inside the ground....?
I wonder if MV will have any future role at Yorkshire cricket?
What a great idea. He would be a bit rusty and would have to dust down his whites, but even if he did not play an appearance of some sort would be fantastic. Make him honorary captain for the day.
I guess he's lost to us forever. The mealy-mouthed events when we played Derby in the 20/20 didn't suggest that the departure was mutually happy.
In an ideal world I'd have liked Vaughan to have captained the side from mid-season and to have continued to play for a couple more years - but I guess he has other fish to fry and I can't imagine Moxon or McGrath would have liked it.
Perhaps a few years down the road we may see him again in a Director of Cricket role - don't hold your breath though.
There are a few posts on this thread by posters wearing rose tinted glasses.
Yes,Vaughan was a great player but the facts are that for several seasons he delivered nothing to Yorkshire.I hope that he has a long prosperous retirement but please don't cast YCCC as the villains in this.
Proir to his retirement people were literally screaming for him to be dropped as he was holding up the developement of our youngsters;then when he does go suddenly he becomes Mr.Wonderful.
I think you'll find he always was , still is, and always will be Mr Wonderful to me....
I also think he's going to make an excellent commentator on TMS.
That's fair enough Steve:you're fully entitled to be a fan of someone who was undeniably a great cricketer.I was fortunate enough to follow England on their Ashes tour of 2002-03 when Vaughan was simply majestic.
My point was that his form for Yorkshire, especially over the last two seasons, was dire.Sadly,he seemed to be the last person to realise that he just wasn't worth his place in the Yorkshire side.
Actually i think Moxon and Mags were slower than MV himself to realise he was not a certain selection for the Yorkshire side but perhaps they were being leant on by the ECB to keep picking him?
Have to agree with AlibiAlf ... Vaughan has spent most of the last 2 seasons 'clogging' up Yorkshire's middle order. It was obvious that Virgil thought he was one good score from an England re-call ... I still think that that 2 or 3 games in the 2nd team would have been much more use than struggling in the first team
As for Vaughan's departure. Can I ask what else Yorks could have done ... you get a player how wants to decide when he plays & when told no announces his retirement in the papers ... alegedley before informing the county.
