Same old Notts, sign everyone and then get rid of them within a year. They must have a huge pot of money. This week they have signed yet another spinner in White from Northants and Mullally from Lancs within 1 day of Lancashire releasing him. How many more spinners do they need, they now have 5. They have also got rid of Jefferson. Things move on a pace at Trent Bridge!!

Nottsare one of the teams that really 'get' to me ... at Trent Bridge one of their members was mouthing off how they dont have any Lurpacks .... that's because they are nicking everyone else's talent AFTER they've proved their worth. How would you feel to be a Leic or Northants fan ... whenever you develop anyone good they just leave for more cash.

I for one hope Yorkshire NEVER go down this route .... we cant just have Yorkshire developed players anymore but the spine should always be 'home raised cricketers'

If Notts operate within the rules and gain success they will carry on and more teams will follow.

I think the ECB need to come up with a system that compensates smaller counties, otherwise why should they develop talent only for it to be poached and other counties reaping the benefit.

A transfer system may be the only solution, at least the smaller counties could reinvest the cash received.

you have to laugh at the number of second rate spinners moving to Notts over the years, all thinking that this is their route to the England team just because it worked that way for Swanny - Jason Brown, White etc need to take a closer look at the usual Notts track and see that its still suited for the seamers ever since the days of Rice and Hadlee.

Anyway, next summer Swann will be back to block their path when Rashid takes over as number one spinner for England so the new signings will be stuck in the Notts 2nd team.

Trent Bridge in the days of Hadlee and Rice were always very green affairs but Eddie Hemmings usually managed his fair share of wickets too.

yeah Hemmings may have got some wickets but he bowled flatter (or should that be fatter?) spinners than Flat Jack Simmons

wasn't he another one who left another county (Warks) to join Notts?

The old Trent Bridge pitch was a mystery ... I'm remember the ball turning square at about 12:15 on the first day ... a week before the B&H final in 1987.

As can be seen from the link Hadlee (who bowled) & Rice (didn't bowl) played ... but the game finished in 2 days due to Hemmings (7 wkts) & Andy Afford (9 wkts) bowling Yorksihre out twice.

its a great scorecard but clearly our players minds must have been elsewhere with a big B&G final just round the corner.

Andy Afford now of course editing a monthly cricket magazine (All Out Cricket?)

You fail to mention that we took 12 wickets in the match as well - all to Swallow and Fergie.

Interesting to note that Moxon, Sharp, Metcalfe, Blakey from the team all involved in Yorkshire coaching set up in recent years plus Love at York now. Hartley umpiring and 2 sad early departures.

What are Swallow, Jarvis and Neil Hartley doing these days and when are they going to return to the old boys network as coaches at Headingley? Jarvis must be a better bet than Blain and we could do with a spin bowling coach with the talent at our disposal.

Not sure where we could fit Neil Hartley into the line up though...

Sir Geoffrey mentioned in his biog that Neil was good with a brush, at least the cricket committee at the time told him he was a ''grand lad who would sweep the car park if you asked him.'' or words to that affect.

An obvious conclusion then is that he must have had an interview and we can soon see him on the coaching staff then
