umpires

May 2 2016, 12:55 PM

One thing that you can look at when watching cricket on TV is the umpires ,
When they look at there performance this morning how can they go back out and have confidence in there decisions ,but the players who were given out cannot say a word .

3 absolute shockers by the umpires. Root did not help himself though by walking. To much of a gentleman I suppose.

We could have predicted a Root low score, it always seems to happen after months of inactivity in "proper cricket" by returning test players.

EDIT -- the last time Root played for us after a long winter break was against Middlesex in April 2014 and on that occasion he got a 5 ball duck.

Pretty sure the Root one was out, the 'bounce' you see is an optical illusion - Wessels had his fingers under the ball. Still unlucky with the two lbws.

Raining at Trent Bridge now.

If Root, having turned and watched the catch being pouched, gave himself out, then surely it's a bit harsh to blame the umpires?

Both LBW decisions were shocking though and I'm rather surprised that Sky's "experts" were so muted in their criticism.

Well i just rather enjoy the irony of it all.
Sky turn up hoping to see Root bat and Broad bowl - instead of which they get brilliant performances from County stalwarts like Alex Lees and Jake Ball - that truly is the magic of County Cricket..

Really enjoyed the morning session but a little frustrating to hear about the dodgy LBW decisions.
To the naked eye from the upper tier of the Radcliffe Road stand I thought the ball didnt quite carry for the Root dismissal.
Game finely posed so sad the weather has spoiled it.
After stopping & looking brighter it is raining cats and dogs now. Early tea being taken but wouldnt put any money on any more play today.

Hope that Broad does not join the party if they get back on, or we could well end up losing this match.

Another inspection at 5pm with a possible 5.30 start and 20 overs.

A tricky period for us - the bowlers have had a good rest and short enough for Broad and Ball to bowl the full 20 overs.

A make or break session for the eventual winners.

Nothing much to gain for us, but an awful lot to lose if things go badly!!

Yes, if it goes well it increases our chances of another draw, but if it goes badly we're up against it

Another inspection at 5.30!!

May as well call it off for the day, as a 30/45 minute session is going to do no favours at all for us, and can only benefit Notts big time.

Boy, this forum never changes does it?

so much negativity for the double champions

170-4 is an awful lot better than 129-4 when chasing 261

twelth man said "Yes, if it goes well it increases our chances of another draw, but if it goes badly we're up against it"

how on earth do you work out that 170-4 (if all goes well increases our chances of a draw, surely it increases our chances of winning?

Gritty batting here from the two captains.

Tough to have to get in again against top quality bowling. Also, the rain has slowed down the outfield that was zipping balls to boundary this morning.

Important knock here from Gale (who by my reckoning may have been robbed of a couple of boundaries by leg-bye calls).

there you go, come wednesday afternoon, those 41 runs may well make all the difference

if you don't play you can't win

well done to the team as a whole, lost 4 wickets but 3 were definitely iffy if not outrageous

Excellent last session. We had to avoid losing any wickets and it was mission accomplished (but only just, with the Read "drop").

Strange decision by Read to take Broad off and bowl Patel instead, just what Gale and Lees would have wanted. A good captain NEVER does what the opposition most want!!
