Why did they go off after 3 balls of Gurney's last over?

Patel bowling may have been due to the light perhaps?

Enjoyed last hour.
Not sure either why Broad came off, think Notts trying too hard for a wicket.

Thought Bairstow and Lyth were both very unlucky but that's cricket for you. You have to believe the umpires call it as they see it and next time they may get away with one. Root took Wessels word for the catch which was fair enough as the replay as usual gives a false perspective.

Notts bowling was outstanding with the new ball pair and then fell away to be pretty ordinary in the last session.

If we can get a decent lead at the current run rate we have an excellent chance of a win against a not very convincing batting line-up. Hopefully in warmish sunshine too.

Sometimes we do well and sometimes we don't, but whatever anyone says about this team, they're worthy champs, rarely beaten and always (well nearly always) fight back. Keep the faith. Good last session, when things could have gone astray.

Initial thoughts on the decisions - based on real time rather than repeated replays.

Lyth - looked close, wasn't surprised it was given
Root - thought it was short and still do.
Bairstow: Awful decision, high and missing leg.

Worried about Gough for the reminder of the match, he looks shot to pieces.

Didn't see all the final session on TV, the Read drop, who and how bad was it?

it was bad, at head height, almost a regulation catch off lees

Lees flashed at a wide one that probably bounced a bit more than he was expecting. Got a top edge which went quickly to Read's left above his shoulder/head height.

It was difficult but, to me, he had both gloves closed , as you would if holding the ball thus not giving himself a chance of completing the catch. He misjudged it badly and it ended up hitting the top of his gloves and running away for 4.

He was poor throughout the day, generally untidy with sausages for fingers. It was a let off for Lees but, in the greater scheme of things, a bit of deserved luck after the decisions we saw earlier today
