Ours is the only match where there is any play. 1 wicket for no runs so far off 8 balls!!

Radar suggests some rain in Eastleigh within an hour; maybe intermittent for a while.
Rate of rain progress across the country might result in play at Birmingham by mid to late afternoon.

"Typical of our lads I'm afraid" - is that the back to back county champions you're referring to, Peter?

with regards to the over rate, all sorts of allowances are found especially in weather interrupted games. if we are only one over behind i would think we might be ok.

Re: CHAMPIONSHIP | Hampshire vs Yorkshire at Southampton (Day 4)

September 3 2016, 11:54 AM

yes, thats right seadog.

But as i have explained before, in the last 2 seasons we were head and shoulders above everyone else.

we would win matches by an innings or 300 runs or so.

This season we have not dominated as many games. When we do we win, but to win the title we need to win close games, games where we do not necessarily dominate, games like this one or the lancs game or the hants game at headingley or even the durham game.

Last season we did not need to win games like that cos we would dominate and win easily more games to compensate.

if we are to win the league this season we need to manufacture some of our wins, and we do not even try to do that, always happy to take the draw and move on to the next game in the hope we can dominate that.

We may yet win the league by dominating our 2 upcoming home games (weather permitting), but these half chances that we do not buy a ticket for could yet cost us the title.

Rain will end this match at tea, if bad light does not do that first. Thats an almost certainty.

Therefore we need to declare sometime around now if we are gonna give ourselves a chance to win.

Of course we won't, we will take yet another draw and move on. Why? we cannot lose this match, and would still have 50 overs perhaps to try bowl hants out. We have a great bowling attack, why not give them a chance to win us the game?

Rain about 20 minutes away according to the rain radar, but looks like a shower so may get back on after lunch.

Listening on line. Both chaps from Hampshire really are very good. Cally is just hopeless, although thankfully he's off a lot doing his local radio updates.

Batting sounds awkward and over rate slow - 16 in almost 75 minutes.

Cowley seemingly keen to get off - waving his light meter around.

Floodlights on and mention of rain in the local area - doesn't sound great.

Think we're still looking at a few overs pre lunch - declare around 12:30pm? Apparently rain due in 5 mins!

In that case we bat till it rains, then declare, no point declaring, losing two overs, coming back on for 1 over, then going off again.

If it rains soon and an early lunch taken, do NOT declare....keep the Hants openers on tenterhooks throughout lunch interval.

Our game is going nowhere - not declaring but not pushing scoring quickly enough. Rain seems inevitable in afternoon. 20 runs in 5 overs then we declare!?

Declared 298 in 72. Advantageous although weather likely to intervene.

Covers on the pitch but not the run ups. Assuming play before lunch - could be 3/ 4 overs.

Update: Apparently rain getting heavier, unlikely to restart.

Early lunch?

I think, things are not as flexible on the last day. Early lunches and teas are out and no extra time for overs lost, etc.

A gap in the rain clouds shortly, then another big one on its way.

I think we played it just about right this morning..
Rain will win in the end I fear - but you never know.
If we get three or four quick wickets it might still be exciting.
I don't think the title will be won - or lost - today.

Re: CHAMPIONSHIP | Hampshire vs Yorkshire at Southampton (Day 4)

losing overs is totally irrelevant today. The game will end at around 4pm no matter how many overs have or have not been bowled.

batted on way too long, now only 1 session, maybe 30 overs to win the game....watch us get hants at something like 80-6 and then you can see why it was sheer folly going on past 12 this morning.

Life must be so frustrating when you're always right and everyone else is always wrong. Exhausting.
