Countryfile weather - the week ahead

Oh dear, decent weather all week but breaking down late Friday. Really hope Dizzy and MM were watching. Need a game plan.

Assume we bat first and third, I'm setting the declaration at 300 from 70 - brave but with no play from 4:15pm Friday it needs to be done.

Real story, and its obviously a good one, is that we'll get a lot of play this week - excellent news for those who love the championship and take an interest in all its ups and downs.

Please file the declaration comment under 'humour' - see Hampshire day 4 thread!

Actually, should we be sent in by Durham, it might be an idea to forfeit our first innings and get on immediately with the business of taking 20 wickets.

But - oh damn! - we would lose the batting bonus points. AND it would be in breach of regulations for depriving Durham of their bowling points.

Otherwise, really good idea, I'm sure you will all agree.

What? You don't?

Nay, nay.

The answer is obvious.

Tell the lower order to bat like the top order.

We'll be shot out cheaply, bowl Durham out, make a decent 2nd innings score, then the forecast will be wrong & it will rain before Durham can bat.

Why not simply reverse the batting order?
Open with Siddy & Brooks, gives them plenty of time to rest before they have to get on with their proper jobs.

Let Ballance & Lees open the bowling until the sun goes behind a cloud, walk off and tell them we've declared.

That will baffle them

Extremely good idea to plan for the certain rain at exactly 15 minutes past 4 on Friday!

Anyone know if Johnny B is allowed to play for us this week? I note his absence from the list announced for the 2 hour knockabout in Manchester on Wednesday evening.

The highly skilled knockabout.
