Other Matches Week 21

September 8 2016, 10:25 PM

Wouldn't call Jack Leach a mediocre bowler - if he'd played for Lancs, Yorks, or London teams he'd be in the test team already ! After all the moaning about the Taunton road, nice to see a lively wicket. Shows what having an Aussie in charge can do as well !

I'll look forward to seeing Jack Leach at Headingley next week. I was impressed with him when I saw him at Taunton earlier in the season and have taken an interest in his progress.
I wish him well but hope he will be on the losing side, as I'm sure you do Steve H.!

I think Leach has got to the point where there are so many people saying he's underrated that she's actually become overrated. He's had one good season, which has massively been boosted by the 25 wickets he's taken in the three matches with ridiculously spin-friendly pitches at Taunton; I think he's got a fair bit left to prove in less favourable conditions before he would be under serious consideration for the Test team. A Lions tour maybe.

The (few) Middlesex boys are somewhere between nervous and pessimistic about their side's chances today.

Still think they'll get these quite easily . That's not an attempt to jinx for one rather an honest assessment

I agree, Compton is just the man when time isn't a factor.
Slow & steady wins the race.
Notts doomed it would seem.
Am I correct in thinking there's only one team to go down this year?

No. Two down still but only one up I think.

Agree re Compo. Ready made for him today to grind it out and secure the win.

Compton RUN OUT! How splendidly un-necessary!

Still in the balance there.

Wasn't his grandad a bit dodgy with his running between the wickets too?

Must be in the genes

No. Two down still but only one up I think..

Of course it is otherwise no team could gain promotion from the second division.
Silly me.

And that team will be Essex. Always a favourite among some of us (tongue in cheek).

As a London-dweller, at least I might get to a game there, though would have preferred Kent promoted.

Another great decision by Lancashire....dump John Simpson, get in Luke Sutton and then replace him with Gareth Cross.

Simpson a miles better keeper and batsman than either Sutton or Cross.

Simpson is good in a tough situation and proved it again today.

I wonder who is going down with Notts? Only 8 points between 5th place Warwickshire and 8th place Hampshire, but Durham and
Lancashire have an extra game.

Last week of the season Hampshire play Durham, and Warwickshire play Lancashire. Any of the four could join Notts.

And what about signing Buttler Howden and then not seeing him play any four day cricket despite not being in the test team?

Where's young Davies?

That must be enormously frustrating Howden. At least with the players we have 'lost'- Robinson, Ashraf, Sanderson- we have a very strong set of players in that department so even when they perform well it is understandable. With your wicketkeeping, not so much; as TC says, what has happened to Davies? I thought he was a fine player.
