"""But surely Peter, with such accurate weather forecasts available these days,(well there was last week when it suited your argument more) today's play was never in doubt so your conjecture is rendered meaningless. """"

Really? thats not what people at headingley were saying.

I get home from watching another great victory, and guess what? People are whingeing about a bonus point!

Also a silent thanks that we had Umpires Lloyd and Evans (R). With last week's pair, Cook and Cowley, there wouldn't have been much play today.

....and therefore would have been match drawn.

You've misinterpreted my post EYT but it seems to be the day for people to fall out on a day of success.

I intimated that it would be unwise to play in a golf event if linked to England sponsors. If playing with Buttler that's different but as lancs had no game this week there was no chance for butler to reconnect with his county.

Thanks for clarifying about the golf. They must be well connected or very organised as it takes months to get a round there usually

Given they're both part of the ISM stable which is run Chubby Chandler I'm guessing he could probably get a tee time on most courses! 😀

As for'of course I wanted us to win' how does that square with your wish that you don't want us to win the CC?

Nowt wring with passion Peter but falling back on 'temper' after posting a paragraph or more of vitriol aimed at the team is an unrealistic claim.

Never mind the semantics though, enjoy the win and maybe you will be cut more slack than you get at the moment.

When you post such imflammatory comments you have to expect to be picked up on them.I don't doubt your passion but sometimes you display it in 'unusual' ways.

It would have some logic if Johnny was actually a current member of the ODI first team, but Buttler is preferred. If the tour to Bangladesh actually happens then the first matches are one dayers! If Bairstow played for us as batsman only, I would pick him in preference to Gale and make Ballance captain - he did pretty good job in Scarborough! That would strengthen our batting.

Again Alibor, have to agree with you.

Why jonny cannot play is totally beyond me.

Re: England players

September 9 2016, 7:13 PM

As i've said before, JR has played much more for England than Yorkshire since his rise to prominence that it is inevitable that he puts England first or so it seems.

His ECB contract also gives Yorkshire few opportunities and i'm sure his paymasters after a tough series against Pakistan when he played all formats along with earlier international commitments means that they probably tell him to relax, put his feet up, socialise sensibly, basically just get away from cricket and rewind the batteries, whereas JB has played so much more for Yorkshire, been a big part of our successes and has the connection with family, that he feels much more 'a part of the team'.

So i can see that a trip golfing in Loch Lomond appeals to JR with an England mate, equally as a visit to Headingley to watch his mates does for Jonny.

I think that is more of how it is nowadays with the ECB contract system and the control they have over the players and the counties as much as anything else.
Years ago when you wasn't playing test cricket for your country you were playing county cricket, it was as simple as that, but the game has fundamentally changed now and county cricket is often sen and treated as an irrelevance by the ECB as highlighted by who they do and don't make available for matches.

The Bangladesh tour is treated with so much more importance that a fascinating climax to the CC season and that is sad. How great it would be if all counties could call on all of their players with no international duties at this time of the season, then maybe we would all see how much JR cares for the club if he was an integral part of us winning the title.

Re: England players

When the international free period in September was decided for the last two CC fixtures, I feel sure that the planners were hoping for a competitive conclusion, with challenging top county teams at full strength. The ECB have rather ruined this idea, especially for Yorkshire with all of our England players - so their unavailability is a severe handicap compared with our rivals unless they release Bairstow, Rashid, Plunkett and Willey. If we suffer two injuries next week etc.....

The ECB make the rules up to suit and are a law to themselves, answerable to nobody. The help who they feel like helping and that is rarely us.

A great climax to the season is not being helped by them at all. Finn is available, we have two that aren't and they can't make their minds up about the others.

There should be some ground rules in black and white that they cannot circumvent, but they would still find a way. Imagine the FA pulling Rooney out of Man U's squad with two games left to play, no, neither can i!

I'm not sure that it is like waving a magic wand that when our eng players turn up. They did nothing in the 20/20 final.

As to the debate about central contracts it would be interesting to go back to the introduction of them and why. Thinking back to when David Lloyd was eng coach, there was a feeling around the eng team and management that it was the counties were indifferent to the national team. Interesting that the view on here that now has turned 180.

Nice that they made a decision so early!

I'm surprised they have told us before Sunday evening!

Re: England players

Rather unfortunate for Rafiq who has contributed excellently against Notts and Durham, especially with the bat, and has not had much chance to bowl long spell but Rashid should be preferred spin option. I suppose Plunkett and Willey are stand by options in case any of the first choice seamers are not fully fit for Monday. The mid order batting, especially Gale, is our only weakness but unless they have second thoughts about Bairstow we have not much choice but to play same top 5 as Durham match and hope someone (or two) will play big innings. Fear Trescothick will score big for them - he is still a very fine opening batsman.

Plunkett might come in for Patto whose father is quite seriously ill apparently, he was in Hull yesterday visiting him before shooting off back to Leeds i was told by a work colleague who knows the family.

Hope everything is okay with Patto first and foremost, family comes first.

What an absolutely ridiculous thread this has turned into. Root played a round of golf today and didn't post a message on Twitter therefore he doesn't care about Yorkshire- absolutely absurb, get a grip.

Back to the original subject, and glad to see that all three have been released. Rashid in for Rafiq clearly, but I agree with Idle Man other than that: if Patto is OK to play- and I very much hope all is well with him- then I would stick with our pace attack as it is.

I generally agree with you JG. I think you're right about selection on this occasion, though there may be some sense in considering Plunkett for the Somerset game. Tim has had a very busy schedule and might benefit from a rest.

The recent match shows why Patterson has to play (if he feels up to it). The Notts innings set off at a rapid rate. The bowlers were changed and still the runs flowed. Eventually Gale brought Patterson on. Steve's first over went for 14. Thankfully Gale kept his nerve, Patto's next 10 overs went for 12 & oh yes he took 2 wickets.

Plunkett is a replacement for Brooks or Bresnan. Patterson's role is different.
