Rashid is a pathetic bottler who is letting down his club, its supporters and his mates - if he still has any - and he should be fired. End of.

Seems to me that bairstow did ask to play or make it pretty clear that he wanted to play. The nuance than none of us were aware of was the need for ECB clearance for him to be allowed to play even though he is not contracted.

For the conspiracy theorists maybe our attempts to sign Borthwick was as much for his spin as for his batting? Rashid on his way out?

I wonder if this marks a turning point in where the power lies? The pendulum has swung too far in favour of team England and the ultimate consequence of this must be weaker county sides. Where is the incentive to invest in talent if they can't play in the really important games?

If the chance to help Yorkshire to a third successive Championship is insufficient motivation for Rashid, he has no place st the Club. Get rid. Now.

But Fraisse, we make these impassioned judgements without access to any context. I'm disappointed by Ragshid's decision but would hesitate to go further than that.
What is clear, is that the ECB position on 'resting' players is flawed and the players, as well as we supporters, perceive it as such.

We do need to be a bit cautious here I think. There may be personal reasons why Rash wants a break. That doesnt appear to be the case but you never know

Yes i would let Rashid go too, let him see how green the grass is on the other side, if and when England don't require him. You cannot have players requesting to be left out for a rest at any time of the season, never mind that it is the very last one and a title decider, amazing! As others have eluded, very selfish indeed on his part.

That debate around T20 finals day about commitment to the county, especially regarding Root and his pod appearance, looks interesting now regarding Rashid, obviously with him it is England first and Yorkshire a distant second and if it isn't like that, then i hope he has a decent explanation.

Sign a replacement who wants to play for the county, we really don't need anyone who isn't fully committed to the cause.

i bet Gale is absolutely livid and is biting his tongue right now, rather than letting everyone know how he really feels.

To be honest, if there are legitimate personal reasons behind Rashid's decision then the club have behaved terribly and hung him out to dry. I can't see that being the case. I wonder how Adil will feel if we do win the title and he's sat at home watching his team mates lift the trophy and celebrate? Or will he turn up on day 4 and go full John Terry?

To do a John Terry he'd have o be braver than he seems to be ATM.

I don't think he'd be welcomed with open arms into the dressing room.

Unless there is something behind his decision, which we are not privy too, I doubt he will be well received in the dressing room ever again.

I think Gale's comment on Twitter shows what the dressing room think of the Rashid situation...

YCCC have drifted out to 9/4 after Adil Rashid requested to be rested for England's tour of Bangladesh

Although Rafiq may chip in with some runs and maybe bowl tidier spells than Rash talker, he can't run through a batting order, and we simply must take twenty wickets. Still he might be a foil for our seam quintet (not quartet).
I'm relieved to see nobody yet advocating the recall of out of form Leaning. Just because he is a specialist batsman (in theory) does not remotely render him a like for like replacement.
Bresnan has the technique to bat further up the order while Plunkett has batted better in the CC than he has bowled. I do agree that four over blasts from Liam would be a good ploy.
Hopefully Lyth will rein in his attacking instincts. We need plenty of first innings batting points as I wouldn't have much faith in Nottinghamshire turning over Somerset on their living room carpet down there.

Ballance
Bresnan
Gale
Plunkett

If you think there is any doubt about whether Rashid has made himself unavailable, just look at Gillespie and Gale's comments:

Gillespie: I'm obviously frustrated about Rash and I said to him I hope he doesn't regret the decision he has made. But I fully respect his decision. He has played a lot of cricket and he feels he needs a rest."

Gale: "Yes, he wants to rest. That's his decision. I'll take 11 lads on the field who will give everything to win."

I don't think they leave anyone in any doubt about what happened or what they think about it.

Yep. Rash thinker is out of the picture. I get the impression there are an awful lot of disgruntled not to say seething Yorkshire supporters heading to norf London. I predict it could get ugly especially when the alcohol flows and if our depleted team fails to deliver.

Gary - Somerset have to win, so it will not be the "living room carpet" wicket. It will be like the wicket in the last match at Taunton when the highest score of the 4 innings was 211.

We should applaud the Club for their excellent statement about the appalling decision by Strauss and Bayliss in not allowing Bairstow to play in CC decider this week. We should never allow either of them near our Club and I hope our supporters make their feelings very clear at the Lords match. It would have been more understandable for them to want Rashid to rest as he is likely to have heavy workload on the sub continent tours but it is disappointing he had to ask to be rested. The England set up is a complete shambles with blatant inconsistency with contracted and non contracted players and no "joined up thinking" about player release or consultation with players or their employers. There is no doubt there is collusion between ECB and Middlesex.

Somerset need all the batting points that they can lay their hands on. Do you think they will settle for nineteen or twenty points and hope Middlesex and Yorkshire treat each other to a tame draw?

It's not as simple as that Stu- Somerset need bonus points as well as a win to overtake Middlesex. For example if they beat Notts but only score in their first innings, Middlesex would just need a draw with 6/8 bonus points to stay ahead of them (so bowl us out and make 300+ themselves, or make 350+ and take 6+ of our wickets). They'll need to prepare a more balanced wicket than they have done recently.

I'm more disappointed with your suggestion that Yorkshire fans might cause problems at lords if we don't play well.

Not sure I can ever recall any problems at four day cricket due to alcohol or anything and your suggestion is more akin to t20 with a different fan base. I think the vast majority attending will be willing our them on to overcome yet another problem on the back of no Root, no Bairstow, an overseas player finding form then recalled home, a player not wanting to play and an opponent who seem able to get all the players they want thanks to one international team bending over backwards to help them.

If Dizzy needs any words to inspire our team then I am sure there will be some quotes from Closey or Lord Hawke.

I know there is anger and frustration at the gods conspiring against us but to suggest some possible alcohol induced crowd trouble is disappointing.
