CHAMPIONSHIP | Middlesex vs Yorkshire at Lord's (Day 1)

September 20 2016 at 6:20 AM

WRF  (Premier Login AlexRoberts)
Owner

We could hardly ask for a more exciting finale to what has been a challenging season for Yorkshire. A 24-point win (or one of several other scenarios) would clinch a third consecutive Championship pennant - a feat that would match the achievement of Yorkshire's great team of the late sixties.

However, Yorkshire are certainly at a significant disadvantage in this tussle, what with four of our best players out of the contest for various and sundry reasons. Our overseas signing, Jake Lehmann is back in Australia, our top spinner Adil Rashid is unavailable due to family matters, and our two world-class batsmen, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow are being held back by the ECB.

* If Somerset win their match against last-place Notts and end up in a tie with Yorkshire on total points, the cider drinkers would be champions since they would have fewer losses.

If cloudy conditions in London is true its a no brainer. Stick them in and let Sidebottom and Jack Brooks put Middlesex under pressure and see how they handle it.
Does feel we are the underdogs of the 3 sides with the last few days but could work to our advantage.

well i'm sitting on the shores of Lake Como.
Its a bright day here and if i was captain i'd choose to bat.
I appreciate conditions at Lords may be different.
All i wanted to say is that we have 11 or 12 players in London who have all tried incredibly hard throughout the last six months to keep us in contention in spite of all the problems we've faced.
whatever happens over the next four days -please dont doubt their effort or commitment. They're the team we support -lets not sink into personal criticism or snide remarks.
They're all trying - win lose or draw we should be proud of them!

That's at least three seasoned wrf regulars overseas at the time of our biggest game of the season.

I'm shocked and thought you would all be at Lords for the duration of the match.

Pretty simple to me that we have to bowl first today.

As Andrew Gale said, he is sure the 11 going out there will give their all for Yorkshire and the next few days are time for all of us to unite behind them and shout them home, no matter where we are or what we feel about the individuals involved.

COME ON YORKSHIRE,the very best of luck, show the ECB suits what we're made of.

Clearly anybody who is on holiday at the moment should not be allowed to support Yorkshire again. End of.

I miss the last game every year.
My wife is an amazing woman - but one week every year is free of cricket and work.
Its a very small price to pay believe me.

Rained overnight though not much, but moisture in the air and very overcast.
I'm in Marlborough for 3 days after today as my original holiday was cancelled 2 weeks ago so sorry about that

No Plunkett or leaning, Rafiq and Willey play. They must have thought swing would play a bigger part than pace. Let's hope we can get the runs on the board 2nd innings. Everything crossed, come on Yorkshire!!

thats good, by the end of today the bonus point situation will be much clearer.

idealy both sides bowled out before getting their 4th batting point, that would leave us needing to score 300 and to win the game to win the title (assuming both sides pick up 3 bowling points)
