...and a re-structuring of the system. Performance related payments!!

As expected JB gets one. Rashid, Plunkett & Willey just have white-ball ones. GB has an incremental.

Only Moeen, Root, Stokes and Woakes have a contract for all formats. Bairstow has a test contact only - slightly surprising?

Interesting that there is now performance based pay, with elements for off field activities.

one day games 20-20

September 29 2016, 12:28 PM

so do you think that jb will be released for Yorkshire one day games and 20-20 don't thinks do you? do you think James Anderson is injured or just doesn't want to go .

"Tactical" injury for Anderson, saving him for India? It's possible but why not just leave him out anyway? We can be sure Wood's injury is genuine anyway, his ankle must be becoming a real concern.

Agree, if tactical then why not just leave Anderson out. Completely justifiable to argue for his workload to be managed etc.

Of course it is the same injury that caused him to be left out when he declared himself fit. Maybe the selectors did know best.

More generally, I think the central contracts are pretty much what you would expect. Finn continues to be the go to bowler (replacing Wood in the ODI squad) - hope he justifies it.

Having seen Toby R-J in action last week, I reckon he wouldn't have been a bad bet for India and Bangladesh.

Roland-Jones is indeed unlucky, but Ball's late season form justifies his selection.

Anderson hasn't recovered from injury, it's that simple isn't it?

Still, nothing like a good old ECB conspiracy theory.

Won't Finn be too tired after playing in the Middlesex vs Yorkshire match?

He did bowl a very long spell in that second innings. Must be shattered

So Hales Vince and Ballance plus Duckett and Hameed all don't get a test contract in full.

But there are plenty of seam bowlers afforded the privilege (6) by my reckoning.

I suppose it's hard not to argue with the lists as they stand.

Interesting that they are two batsmen short for a centrally contracted XI, and only Ballance gets and incremental contract. Does that mean Ballance is pencilled in to the middle order space?

Well he is in the winter tour squad whereas Vince and Hales who played all summer are not.

Bit early to give to Hameed and Duckett without any proof.

Robson, Lyth, Compton, Trott, Bell, Hales, Vince, are all top order batsmen who have come and gone over last couple of years. Sooner or later one of them is going to grab the chance

Looks that way re Ballance. With no Vince, I guess it is two from Stokes, Ballance & Duckett for 4 & 5.

Cook
Hameed/Duckett
Root
Ballance
Ali
Stokes
Bairstow
Woakes
Rashid
Broad
one of Finn/Batty/Ball

that would be my guess.

We can see which way the wind is blowing now - according to Strauss...

"We believe the restructure of the central contract system will recognise the increased focus of the shorter format and the importance that we place on this as we continue our progress towards hosting the 2019 World Cup."

Also whereas we used to have "White Ball Specialists" we now have "Test Specialists"

Seems as though 4 and 5 day cricket is being marginalised when it is the only form of cricket which matters to many of us.

Absolutely right white ball cricket is seen on a par with test cricket. We have 2, massive, global one day tournaments on these shores in the next 3 years, success in them will do the game the world of good.

I enjoy white ball cricket (and hope England do well) but can`t agree it`s on a par with Test Cricket.

Well if JB is considered mainly a test team player, it makes his unavailability for our last two CC matches even more bizarre.
