Bancroft struggled at Gloucs last season, bit surprising that they've re-signed him.

I'm not trying to cause trouble but Hodd averaged a similar figure.

Bancroft was used as a specialist opener in division two and averaged 21. Hodd is a specialist keeper mostly batting down the order in division one and averaged 26. I'm not trying to cause trouble either but you're comparing apples and oranges.

I note wicket-keeper Jonathan Read was Yorkshire Academy Player o' t' Year.

Bresnan and Brooks deserve better and i'm concerned that they won't be supported adequately again next season, having a specialist keeper hinders success.

South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir will join Derbyshire as an overseas player for all formats from June 2017.

Why didn't we snap him up?

I doubt if any signings will be made until the new coach is appointed. We may well miss out on the better players due to this. Quite a few have already been snapped up by other counties.

Whatever the question I doubt that Tahir is the answer to our needs.

Tahir is possibly the last person I would consider as an overseas. Yes, he would replace Rashid when he is on international duty (which realistically is only ever going to be the ODIs), but he would be a spare part for the rest of the time- certainly in four day cricket where Rashid would surely be selected as the sole spinner before Tahir - they both have similar records in first class cricket in the UK I think, but Rashid is a far superior batsman. And we aren't going to field two spinners.

Possibly the first of a clutch of signings by Essex, if they want to be competitive in Division One next season.

Amir, Kaneria, Malik,

Bit of a Chelmsford theme with some of their signings from Pakistan.

Shhh.... Keep quiet you fool.

He's a mole placed by the ECB dirty tricks bureau (Director A Strauss) to get selected and then play like a dork during the next ashes series.

A potential Overseas signing for the whole season is Colin de Grandhomme of New Zealand. Genuine all rounder with solid batting stats in First Class and T20 Cricket, the latter he has a strike rate of 167.

Currently rescuing the innings for the Blackcap, timed a beautiful cover drive on the up that went for 4.
