The club have announced a press conference on Monday morning.
It sounds like we've found our new coach...unless we're talking about ground re-development and the Council?

Anyone got any hints as to who it might be....?

If as expected it is Brad Hodge I would be happy with that as long as he gets here not too long after the new year and isn't committed to Cricket Australia for too long.

Seems like a man who is very difficult to dislike.

Really hope this won't be an underwhelming appointment.

Some might have said that the appointment of Gillespie was underwhelming at the time. Relatively untried and untested. The rest as they say is history.

I don't think the club are particularly bothered about high profile. This new coach will need to bring on the younger and fringe players in a way that JG did not have to. So I suspect a track record of player development may be the deciding factor

Explaining my post. When we signed Travis Head and Jake Lehman both Australian the press announcement was at 7am
to tie in with Aussie media. Tomorrow's press conference is later in the day which may indicate the coach is not Australian.

That's a very good point by Markster.

Equally it doesn't feel as if it's someone currently involved in the County scene.

The "longer term" comments make me think it's someone quite young.

Maybe it's someone close to the club. A Pyrah/Gale for example?

I honestly don't know who to expect.

If I was a betting man I would still say Hodge.

The principle for existing is to win trophies. We already develop players which end up being taken away if they do well, so the answer for success is not to keep prioritising development but a balance between that and signing players.

I am guessing - apologies to Martin if I'm wrong - that his point is Dizzy took over a fairly young squad. The next coach will have to oversee the development of their successors, at least in some cases. As for signings, the key to that is more about available funds than anything else, but the majority of the replacements will have to come from within. Rightly so in my view.

The bottom line is we need to sign replacements for Gale and Hodd, we also need to sign an overseas batsman. If Gale is the new coach then the only positive is that he can no longer fail for us with the bat.

If this fails then Moxon's job should be on the line.

new season

before a ball as been played Moxon and gales job are on the line if he doesn't score runs he should never have been given the coach's job and Moxon should go for appointing him . give the lad a chance .

The club must be seriously skint if they're hiring Gale as their coach. All rumours at the moment but I hope The Guardian have got it wrong

Looks finished with the bat, so appoint him as coach!

Does Gale have all the appropriate coaching qualifications?
I know he runs Procoach but that doesn't mean he himself has passed Level 4.
I cannot see the sense of this appointment myself since we then need to replace him as captain & as a batsman - whatever his failings this year.
