Joe Root & Carl Frampton would be my joint winners of this prestious award, then again neither made the shortlist!

Shocking !! 😡

I think 12 of the list are from the Olympics so that doesn't leave much room for anybody else. Fair enough I suppose as the team did so well.

No Cricketers, No Rugby players of either code, and only 1 footballer.

Andy Murray probably deserves it but if I do vote it will be for Laura Trott, (Kenny if you like). She's fantastic.

Britain waits decades for a truly great tennis player and he gets criticised! Baffling. I know we're a YCCC forum but how on earth does Root deserve it?

Britain is an ideology, when you have fundamental disagreement then it loses unity.

I'm voting for someone whose sport has never been shortlisted before, who won a gold and who led her country over 350 times and carried the flag at the closing ceremony of the olympics.

I know Murray is the obvious winner but for votes like this I prefer to see them shared around and if people like Giggs can get to win it over a career achievement when his personality is minimal then Kate Richardson Walsh should be even more deserving.

I'm hoping the 9m who watched the final and the exploits of Sam Quek in the jungle keep the romantic hockey story maintain momentum.

Another comfortable win for Andy. Crowns a ridiculously good year.

Well deserved win.

I still prefer Cricket, Rugby league, Football and Rugby Union in that order but Murray has moved Tennis up into my top five from a long way down the list.

Let's hope a cricketer does enough to make the shortlist this season. A Yorkshire cricketer would of course be better.

A Treble winning Yorkshire side as team of the year would be even better.

I can dream.

Credit to Alistair Brownlee who has managed to promote Triathlon in such a fantastic way. I personally feel the socialist machine that is the BBC makes the award too biased and outdated, also the self-involved presenters do it no favours as they pander to their own type of person.

You mean like one of the presenters being a former Leicester City Player, another coming from a horse riding family (admittedly racing rather than show jumping) and the other coming from a sporting family in Leeds..... (Oh and a former international gymnast as well).

So that's the 2nd 3rd, coach, team and overseas winners all connected.

You might be closer to the truth than you realise.

Gabby Logan seems to believe she knows a great deal about Yorkshire and then after June 23rd that bubble had been burst, she's spent most of the last 20 years living in London but then they're all experts on progressive living and other peoples lives. As for Gary Lineker the less said about him the better.

"As for Gary Lineker the less said about him the better"

On the contrary - I once thought he was a boring football pundit, but he has gone up in my estimation in recent weeks. How dare he stray off his specialist subjects of football and crisps!

I don't read the Daily Mail. Please explain the reference. Thanks.

I think the reference is to a Mail complaint about a joke on Have I got News for You, which said that the Brexit voters would all have died by the time the whole thing was carried out. The Mail can't be stupid enough to think that the show's hosts have made up their own jokes - that gag would have been delivered by any other host in any other week, but it was an opportunity to do their regular sort of 'angry' article.

Lineker publicly expressed sympathy for the plight of Syrian refugees and was denounced, ridiculed and demonised by the Daily Mail and a baying mob of its readers. This is something he should regard as a badge of honour.
