Overseas players

With the season getting closer, just wondering whether we will be seeing anymore overseas acquisitions? Peter Handscomb looks like he will be a quality addition in all formats of the game. Heard rumourings of both Travis Head and Pujara returning again but not sure on the reliability.

Handscomb has signed for the full season so realistically we would only sign an extra overseas player for the t20. There were rumours of Bres and Willey tapping up Mitchell Johnson during the Big Bash but someone like Head is probably more realistic.

I'd love to see Travis return I was lucky enough to see his innings at Leicestershire last season. Great player with a fantastic future in my humble opinion.

I'd love to see Travis back, fantastic player. I do wonder if there's something in the Mitchell Johnson link though, I saw Steve Dennison retweeted something about him during the big bash which struck me as odd at the time, I'll try to find the tweet in question. For me a batsman would be more pressing in t20, bowling covered by bresnan, willey, plunkett, rashid and presumably Fisher...although I suppose there's no cover there for injuries or if rashid makes the test squad

Hang on, forgot about Rafiq...so where would Johnson fit in?

I'd really love to see Pujara back one day, although more for the Championship.

With my realistic head on for a moment, what's Glenn Maxwell's availability like? Presumably no worse than Johnson's. I know he wasn't everyone's favourite but he'd be better than nothing in the T20 and he adds a bit more depth to the bowling if needed.

I think maxwell left last time under a cloud unless it was just JG he annoyed?

We need to sign 2 specialist T20 players for me, and let Hanscombe just play in the CC and the 50 over stuff.

When you see the quality of signings made by the other counties so far, without our England players and no overseas, or just Hanscombe, we will struggle.

Not sure where Mitchell Johnson would fit in the Yorkshire team for this years T20 Blast. Bowling options are not going to be an issue with Plunkett, Rashid and Willey likely to be available for the entire campaign.

I feel Yorkshire have enough to reach the knockout stages, but are a quality batsman shy from being serious T20 Blast contenders.

I think we'd find room for him somehow! Did you see the way he bowled in the Big Bash?

Oh absolutely, he looked great but when we're potentially already putting 3 international t20 bowlers on the pitch (willey, rashid, plunkett) I think the 2nd overseas slot would be better filled with a batsman.

As it stands (amd making a couple of assumptions around availability) the t20 side would be something like:

Willey
Lyth
Lees
Ballance
Handscomb
Bresnan
Hodd
Plunkett
Rashid
Fisher
Rafiq

Feels light on the batting.

Leaning will play, Handscomb will keep wicket.

True, I still think there's room for an extra batsman over a bowler though unless fishers injury is bad enough to keep him out again

Agree we'll probably play Handscomb as wk, but it's interesting how we all tend to accept the poorer keeper in t20, even though that form of the game probably sees a higher percentage of slow bowling and certainly more batsmen leaving their crease.

But surely fewer balls actually go past the bat in t20 in % terms so the keeper is less important

we desperately need a quality batsman still fot T20.

Lyth
Willey
Lees
?
Balance C
Handscomb WK
Bresnan
Plunkett
Rafiq
Rashid
Fisher

That team has the right balance to me. The addition of a quality player in the middle overs would give us a good chance.

Leaning and another overseas absolute musts.

Handscomb terrible behind the stumps, but no way can we play him and Hodd.

I think we could get by with 5 bowlers and Lyth, so maybe I'd bring in Leaning instead of Rafiq or Rashid. Leaning has played well in one day cricket so hopefully he can score well a couple of times. There is also Rhodes who has played one day stuff for us, but I don't know how well he is developing.

Handscomb first choice for the Melbourne stars so terrible might be pushing it but yes ok, a keeper batsman is the ideal solution - issue being how many fit the bill and are available july/August?
