Mason Crane

It seems it is still possible for an England player to make it into first class cricket in Australia. A leg spinner at that.

He was playing grade cricket during the winter and got himself noticed.

Of course Lyon and O'Keefe are not available to NSW due to their playing in India.

It may well just be a case of being in the right place at the right time. Then again he may be someone to keep an eye on.

He iis very young but looks technically sound. That said they say leggies reach their peak later in their career so may need time.

If England need one thing, it is a quality spinner. Lets hope he develops.

Crane is young, but he looked pretty 'ordinary' at the Ageas Bowl against Yorkshire in 2016.

The report says he is the first foreigner to play for NSW since Imran Khan in 1984-85. Our administrators like to copy the Aussies in lots of ways, but it is selective copying. How about trying this, ECB?

And yes, I do hope he develops. 18 strong counties, and England looks after itself.

Actually, I do think there is a terrific influx of young county players at the moment, though they are mainly batsmen and pace bowlers. Even Lancashire have unearthed a few. including a leg-spinner, though he isn't very good, either! Yet - he has a chance of getting better if he plays, no chance if he doesn't, which brings us back to the overseas question.
