Yes good signing , will he be available for all group matches and finals ?

Good news. We should be competitive in all three formats again next season.

Just had a quick Google, looks like Australia don't have any scheduled matches between the champions trophy and the start of the ashes so presumably both Australians will be available for the whole t20 tournament?

Really positive move from the club, I might be biased but it feels like the right balance between teamwork and relying on format specialists.

There's a possibility that Australia may tour Bangladesh in August/September.

Looking at it, the suggestion is only for 2 tests and the dates very tentatively august/September. Plus Head isn't currently in the test team so probably not something to worry about quite yet. Would be frustrating if we lost both overseas for the knockout stages mind!

If the Aussie cricketers' strike goes ahead, then presumably the tour will be scrapped and TH will be able to come. So we need the ACB to dig its heels in!

I'd hope we'd be going after someone like Chris Lynn if Head can't play

We need more balance and Ballance

May 19 2017, 3:09 PM

I would think that getting some batting reinforcement(s) would be an absolute priority for Yorkshire - that is if we want to contend for a Championship pennant, or even stay in division one. Just take a moment and think about a YCCC side without Ballance and Handscomb (and Root, Bairstow, and Rashid) - a scenario which is increasingly likely.

Putting out a county side where one batsmen is scoring nearly half your runs and one bowler is taking almost half your wickets is not a sustainable "plan."

Travis Head Replacement

May 20 2017, 1:53 AM

Finding a decent replacement for Travis Head is going to be a tough ask, but the Yorkshire think-tank should give New Zealand newbie Tom Bruce a go.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/707113.html

Not only he has a very good average of 38 and strike rate of 150 in T20, but can also bat in the red ball game with a FC average of 44.5 with 4x centurties and 12x fifties. Since the Plunket Shield does not begin until late October and New Zealand resume international cricket in November after the Champions Trophy, Bruce can replace Peter Handscomb as the CC overseas player.

The added bonus is Bruce has represented Scotland "A" last year so there won't be much of an issue in getting s visa, plus he is right handed.

Another likely replacement for Travis Head goes elsewhere. I wonder if we enquired about him?? Are we actively looking for anyone?

Surely there must be someone. We've "backed our own" in this competition before. It didn't end well. There's also the matter of losing Handscombe for the end of the season when Aus tour Bangladesh

I reckon a 2nd Overseas signing for T20 depends on whether Gary Ballance is playing test cricket for England. The current One Day line up with the England white ball specialists are just about capable of reaching T20 Finals Day.

Willey
Lyth
Ballance
Handscomb
Leaning
Bresnan
Waite
Plunkett
Rashid
Rafiq
Fisher

Though problems may arise when Handscomb departs for Bangladesh. I have a feeling Kane Williamson will replace Handscomb as the clubs official overseas player for the season remainder, so Yorkshire are guaranteed an Overseas player for the 4 County Championship matches in September.
