England Contracted Players

Can someone please tell me who and how are the restrictions placed on who can and can not play in CC? Anderson played for Lancs in first round of CC games, Broad also for Notts. Cook playing now for Essex. Buttler Jordan, Morgan, Stokes playing IPL. Am I paranoid, but seems the only folk needing a rest are Bairstow, Root and Woakes, and Bairstow particularly hasn't played in an age.

Woakes is playing in the IPL. If JB had been playing in the IPL that would have been approved, but he has to rest otherwise.

His rest is allowed to include a trip across the atlantic to watch the golf though.

All a cynical nonsense and laughably disrespectful to the county clubs and the loyal supporters of the game.
George Dobell's report on our game against Warwickshire, for Cricinfo, puts things far better than I ever could.

It is an utterly ludicrous situation and Strauss in particlular is to blame. Why is his pal Cook allowed to play for Essex but not Bairstow for Yorkshire, who needs to be playing to be in best form. What is the betting that he gets two low scores in the one first class match he is allowed to play and then is carrying the drinks for the first test - just a farce. Buttler, Billings and Stokes in IPL as well as Woakes etc. The ECB policy has zero credibility.

That is also my worry next week, Alibor. Very likely, due to the fact that Joe and Jonny have not played for months, that they will both get low scores next week on their 1 of only 2 appearance for us this season.

People are quickly going to turn Yorkshire fans into a laughing stock with the constant digs at the ECB.

Root and Bairstow will have played a lot of cricket. It's what happens when you're part of all formats of cricket for England. Butler isn't likely to play against Ireland so Bairstow along with three will play all formats of cricket this summer for England.

This, well Cook can play, yes, of course he can. Unless you've been living under a rock you will see he's not played ODI cricket since before the World cup in Australia. Broad and Anderson also but with them been bowlers the ECB are rightfully monitoring the amount they play and are correctly spaceing the matches out for them.

This well if Bairstow had got a draft pick for the IPL he would have been allowed to play. Yes the ECB would have let him play and that would have been great for JB to play but he wouldn't have played against Ireland and likely would have been rested at another time.

Whilstever Bairstow's the first pick for the Test Team and monitored for the shorter formats he WILL have to miss games for Yorkshire at times even when he's not playing. Let him enjoy himself now. He's destroyed County Cricket over the last couple of seasons. 90 plus avg one year and some big scores last. What's he got to prove?

With Rashid they held him back it seems by one game. We shouldn't have to have our Leg spin all round cricketer cover up what looks to be a squad that looks too short again.

With Root, he will play when he can but at times he's not going to rush to play for YCCC when he's in all formats of cricket for England and the Test Captain. Like Cook he'll likely give up short form cricket at some point and we will hopefully see him more then in a YCCC shrt.

Phil is right, we should be thankful that the ECB don't make Root & Bairstow 'guest' for S(l)urrey & Middlesex as the don't care about the Championship. Allowing England players to play in the IPL but not for the county who spent large amounts of money bringing them through is just an inust.

Yorkshire want Bairstow to boost our team not so he can 'prove' himeself but to help uis win matches. As Gale points out Bairstow has played 6 (six) days cricket in 2017. Steve Finn, who played 4 times for England, plus 3 matches for 'the South' has been allowed to play both matches so far for Middlesex. Finn also played in last season's Championship decider that Bairstow was banned from (even though Jonny asked to play).

Phil says our squad isn't strong enough. Well that's because Rashid only got on the England radar last season. Yorkshire can't afford to have full cover for players who may, or may not, be allowed to play. That is part of the reason why Durham got into trouble.

If Root and Bairstow were Middlesex players they would play a lot more for Middlesex. Strauss is using his position to help HIS county and penalise the rest.

So the ECB are saving Bairstow for the one dayer v Ireland as neither of their preferred odi keepers are available as they are playing in the ipl.

Why don't they ask Buttler and Billings to rest in the ipl and pick them for the Ireland match?

The whole ECB resting policy is a joke!! If JB has been picked for the IPL, who would have kept against Ireland as Billings & Buttler are out there as well. It`s ok to play in the IPL and tire your self out, but if not selected for the IPL you have to rest.

As an aside - are Morgan, Stokes, Woakes, Billings, Buttler & Roy being ordered back to play against Ireland in 3 weeks time or are the ODI Captain, two of Englands better all rounders, their first and second choice 1 day keepers and their first choice opener being allowed to stay in India and miss the Ireland game?

What's next from the ECB? When we get our England players we have from let Root Captain the side so he gets practice? Or he has to field in a certain position. Or Bairstow when keeping has to be given x amount of wides?

Haven't you heard - the ECB have suddenly decided that 50 over cricket is no longer a priority - that's why from 2020 the new T20 domestic competition will clash with the domestic 50 over comp, thus ensuring that our elite players never get the opportunity to practice their 50 over skills outside of internationals. Ludicrous!

Last I heard from the ipl was that Roy and Morgan were being rested - by their franchises rather than the ecb!

When I originally posted this I hoped there was something I was missing. Apparently not. I wonder what the point of producing players for International Cricket is? What good has it done for Durham, what good is it doing for Yorkshire? How much good has it done for Surrey and Middlesex developing very few. Unfortunately until there is some clarity in the process there will be accusations of bias, and the game as a whole will sadly be the loser.

Interview with Jonny Bairstow. Somewhat inconsistent views on England players resting:-http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-4429068/Jonny-Bairstow-vows-improving.html

I seem to have picked up on twitter that the ecb have allowed Johnny to play for us in the next few days after all....

For our second team but not the one day first team stuff coming up.

If it wasn't already farcical enough this just takes to a new level

Don't believe everything you read on twitter.

All England players have been released for the first three RL Cup Games. Bairstow and several other 1st teamers are getting white ball practice in today's 2nd team game at York.

Outrageous that he goes straight into the 2nds at the expense of our loyal stalwarts. He should serve his time in the 3rds and earn his place!
